“Do you know how long my order will be?” (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Klaus_Unechtname
I guess you’re more important than the 50 people who sent their mobile order before you, bud! I’d guess anywhere between 2 and 30 minutes… on account of the lobby being at maximum capacity.

Seriously tho, am I the only one who finds this question annoying and entitled? I can understand wanting to know how long your stuff will be, but I only ever get asked when we’re visibly slammed, coming off very tone deaf.

The app really needs to start giving more time on mobiles. Regardless of how busy or backed up we are it says 9-11 mins. I was 30 mins behind on mobiles all morning. It was god awful. If the app actually gave accurate times I wouldn’t have people bum rushing me all thur peak .

Yup I got asked this today by only a few people mostly because it was batshit crazy. Like you see the other 30 people in the lobby waiting on mobiles as well as cafe. I am doing it in order of stickers, idc. We had 3 people on bar which is usually just 2 (cold/hot). We had 1 cold and 2 hot today.

how do you even check for that? i straight up just tell them “idk” sometimes lol

me too or when they call me away from hot bar to yell at me for their mobile im like “yeah im trying to make them”

When I worked at a restaurant people would ask me how long their carry out order was and I’d just say “I dunno, I don’t work in the kitchen”

As a customer, is there a polite way to ask where your order is in the queue? My Starbucks seems to be suddenly swamped at random times, and I often do a mobile order on my way out the door to an appointment, so I can’t wait for half an hour (I’ve waited as long as 45 min recently). I know it’s not the staff’s fault at all, but it sucks when I have to leave and abandon my order because I wasn’t expecting there to be 50 people at 2:30 PM or something.

Partner here :) I suggest, Don’t mobile order if you have obligations at certain times and have experienced waiting a long period of time (usually stores “peak times” are 7-9 am or 9-11 am) /gen. If you would like to order to avoid waiting, I would suggest going through the drive thru bc ~usually~ drive thru goes by faster than mobiles or cafes, bc there is no backlog of mobiles and cafes (those stickers go thru the same machine, at least in my store). Of course, you can always try to be polite and ask if you do mobile order, but at certain times where there is always a rush every day no matter what, usually baristas take it the wrong way no matter how pure your intentions are. We always feel like customers feel “entitled” when they ask and they see many others waiting as well. Idk, it just an endless cycle of what do I do in this situation 😂 if it were me (as a customer) I would just never mobile order bc of the terrible wait inside, I would go through the drive thru especially if ur in a rush. Idk!! I hope this helps somewhat!! 😂🤍 /Gen /pos /srs

We have an app on our store ipads that can tell us but usually there is not enough time to check it in situations like this. When managers and supervisors are there they have a set job to run the place and get the orders out just like baristas. Best bet is if its a lot of people in the cafe ask for a refund and come after the appointment. Sucks but most of the time we don't have time to find the ipad, go onto the app, and find your order in the absolute chaos of the other 200 orders. Not trying to sound rude or anything btw :)

Not rude at all! Honestly I didn’t ask for a refund before because they were so busy but I probably will if I have to do it again. Big coffee isn’t hurting for my money, lol. Thanks for the info! I have no idea why my small town Starbucks is suddenly absurd but I hope for the barista’s sake (ok and mine) that it chills out soon.

You know what would be really great? If the technology for mobiles would throttle back if a certain number was met within a certain time frame. Like oh we just had a sixty transaction half hour for mobiles (on top of cafe and drive thru) we should only allow forty five for the next half hour and then throttle back up the next half hour. The ongoing stream is a lot for a lot of people, and I feel like an ability to reduce the amount of orders received Ina time frame would benefit customers and partners alike.

I thought since we got the DPM it was supposed to give people notifications when their order was ready… not that that matters when we don’t have the labor to keep up with the DPM but still.
panrosecass 1 points 1y ago
I keep up w it but that’s bc I’m always on mobile ;( and usually most people don’t seem to care I noticed bc I was like unless you received a notification it doesn’t count

dude everyone was asking me this morning. i hate how some of my partners handle it because they will go out of their way and write the order on a cup then the sticker prints literally right after they give me the cup. it makes no sense, i don’t reward entitled behavior and i never will. i just tell them it’s going to be a wait but i’m sorry i’m going as fast as i can and to please be patient. no way in hell am i going out of order for someone yelling at me because she’s been waiting 10 minutes
panrosecass 3 points 1y ago
Yesterday we turned off mobiles and we’re still doing them for a hour

They also act like they haven’t noticed we haven’t stopped moving or making drinks. Like you haven’t seen me take a single second to breathe and you have the nerve to ask how much longer?!
