SM immediately denied my availability request (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by accountedthrowaway5
so i work morning shifts every other day, and i requested to change my availability so that im working weekdays only, and taking off the one weekend that i work. i didn’t completely change my availability, just shifted it so that i have a schedule that makes more sense. (my manager likes scheduling me, for example, from 6-2pm one day, then 6:30-1:30 the next, then 12-8pm one day, and my schedule is so all over the place that i just need a set schedule rn.) the thing is, the second i sent my request, my manager immediately denied it without even looking at it. it was a 1 second period between me sending it and him denying it. he also tends to schedule me on days where I can’t work (no i don’t go in) but I’m just wondering what i should do moving forward? it’s an issue I’ve been having with him for weeks.

Send it again with 'request' crossed out.

Contact your DM, including a screenshot of the requests and denials (I think they have time stamps).

Did you have open availability when you were hired? Nothing says your manager has to accept an availability request change if you were hired for a specific availability. Maybe I am reading this wrong but you are trying to request weekends off?

No I didn’t have open availability, I had my availability for certain dates, and for weekends I was only available on saturdays. he tends to schedule me on odd days and odd shifts, so i requested an availability within the schedule we discussed when I got hired, but only for it to be during the weekdays. i wasn’t completely trying to shift my schedule or change things around, just wanted to have a schedule where i worked weekdays and took my one weekend off. hope that makes sense.

Yeah having weekends off is a non starter at most stores. Nobody wants to work weekends. If you were available Saturdays when you were hired, I'm sure he will hold you to that. You would have a hard time trying to find an SM that would allow that kind of availability.

i mean that’s fine, but he also denied my request where i asked to be available on the weekdays where i originally wasn’t available.

plus, im only available on saturdays and our weekends are far more staffed than our weekdays. if i weren’t in the team they’d still be fully staffed.
