Best way to tip big? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Stinky_Chees
Dear Baristas, my local shop works hard and I want to thank them. I tip on every order but since I’m lucky enough to be getting a bonus soon, I’d like to share. Is it better to throw a large wad of bills in the jar or give a money envelope to a manager? I don’t need any recognition but just want them to feel appreciated… thanks for any ideas on just a small way to help out.

If you give the money envelope to the manager I think it *technically* would go to the manager. Either leave it in the tip jar and it’ll get shared between the baristas or if you know how many baristas are there you could throw a few bucks in envelopes for each of them, but that’s way more work for very similar outcomes, so it’s up to you! You’re too kind for wanting to share your bonus that YOU earned with us! Thank you!!! )’:

if you want it to go to specific people you need to designate it for specific people, otherwise it gets thrown in the pool with all the other tips & divided evenly based on hours worked that week

We had our customers leave big Christmas tips with managers and we always got the whole thing. Usually it was a sealed envelope and the manager put it in the safe straightaway.

I mean it’s a practical way and more secure than tossing hundos in the kitty.

As a Store Manager - I always had customers that wanted to do that give an envelope directly to a Shift Supervisor who would ensure it went straight into the tip drop for the day. That way there would never any question of a store manager keeping any money. Technically SM's are not allowed to even touch the tips :)

If you know there names split it in bank envelopes if you don't just give it to the shift supervisor explaining your intent or put it in the tip jar just try to do the one inside

Every year customers hand me envelopes of cash for my partners. We add that money to the week tips for all partners. Managers can not keep the cash for themselves nor are we part of the tips.
