I literally measure everything the grande cup or tall or whatever the actual cup should be blend it and then pour it into the cup they want it in. I’m not giving them more than they paid for. I’m making the drink how they wanted it
Few-Tax-164798 points1y ago
See, this is the energy I have for her. Most of the time I don’t care but how you gonna be rude af to us and expect free extras??? Then our manager just gives it to her anyway?????
greener-bean50 points1y ago
If she’s rude just remind her of our third place policies and I would just ask the store manager point blank why we are allowed to give her product she doesn’t pay for but not give away everything all day without charging for it

Someone didn't make it all the way through lawschool.

Whenever a customer at my store is being a jerk or trying to game the system, my policy is to give them exactly what they ordered. No more, no less.
In order to make their grande with extra ice and extra syrup fit into a venti without overage, you're going to have to give them less milk, for starters.
After that, you're just going to have to find the right balance of ice and syrups to give her exactly what she ordered without any frap left in the pitcher when you're done.
If they're not specifying how many pumps of frap roast or syrup (just "extra", then give them enough for a venti, since they clearly want a venti. Give them ice for a venti. Give them milk for a grande. That's what they paid for and that's what they ordered.

Yes! My weapon of choice!!
I will NEVER purposely mess with a drink. No matter how angry I am. It's important to me as a person that I act ethically and perform my job to the best of my abilities, NO MATTER WHAT. Even if I'm being paid peanuts and getting yelled at, I will never half-ass my work.
So even if someone is being rude, I make sure they get a drink that is made exactly to standards. No extras. No adjusting because I know they like their drinks a little sweeter or a SMIDGE more whip.
I'll bend over backwards to satisfy customers, and I'll do it with a smile if they treat me like a human being. But if they're rude, demanding, or clearly trying to cheat the system? Nope. You get what you pay for.

Whenever people wanted extra ice in a bigger cup I would do the normal amount of ice for the size with less base and it usually does the trick while maintaining the volume
therealcherry11 points1y ago
I love the blended strawberry lemonade in the summer. I love ice and always ask for extra. I understand it will water it down, that’s the way I like it because it is a little strong for me. I’ve never asked for it in a larger cup, but now that strikes me as a good idea. I’d love double ice even, in a dream scenario. What’s the best way to order it to get extra ice and not seem like I’m trying to get extra for free. I just want a lot of ice.
Sammiche9 points1y ago
That's a good question!
I've only had a few people ask for something similar, and each time they emphasized that they only wanted the amount of drink that went in (smaller size), but they wanted it in a bigger cup because they wanted more ice.
Honestly, as long as you're nice about the request, I wouldn't think twice about it. Ask for the smaller size in the larger cup, and ask for extra ice. You don't need to explain yourself. If the barista tells you that it won't be filled to the top with beverage, just let them know it's fine.
[EDIT] oh snap you mean a blended drink!
That's a tougher one, because we'd still need to use extra base to make your drink blendable.
I guess talk to a barista inside at your store and ask them what they think? I mean, when it's not packed inside. 😉
I'm going to have to defer to shifts on that one!
ClassifiedChipotle4 points1y ago
We have a customer that asks for only 1 pump of frap base, and it ends up looking Italian iced texture if that's what you're looking for? The base is what emulsifies the syrup.
therealcherry1 points1y ago
Yes! I’m just trying to reduce the liquid content. I want the blended ice with just some flavoring akin to a snow cone basically. More ice with the same amount of flavoring.
Is there frap base in the blended strawberry lemonade? I don’t have clue how it is made.
maemac2 points1y ago
Yep and I always make sure no matter how many shots or extra FR they add, the liquid never goes above the bottom line on the cup. Add all the extra ice you want! You’ll get your “venti” Frappuccino but it’s gonna be nearly impossible to drink from your straw
spacespecterr2 points1y ago
i’m this way, too! cheat the system all day, but if you’re making our lives more difficult, i’m not going to glam it up for you. lol.
heyitsme96367 points1y ago
Make the drink as ordered, get a grande cup and a venti cup, fill the grande cup as standard, then transfer to the venti. Set it on the handoff plane, call the name, then walk away and don’t make eye contact. If you can, start steaming heavy cream or start the blender without the sound shield so you can honestly say you couldn’t hear her complain. Also contact your dm and say your manager is repeatedly upsizing drinks after payment.
yerblues686 points1y ago
dms are almost always cozy to sm, in my experience at least you’re gonna have a bad time if you try tattling on your boss to your boss’s boss (unless it’s serious of course), but yeah to everything else you said
YellowSphinx49 points1y ago
When I first started working at Starbucks I had a customer demand the leftovers in the pitcher. this was not something that I heard because I was doing dishes and it was crazy busy. we had a line of however many frappes to make and only 4 blender pitchers. So I had grabbed all the dirty ones and quickly washed them. This displeased the customer and she screamed at me that if I ever did that again she would break my hand. I told her if she ever spoke to me like that again she would not be allowed to play at my Starbucks. she cursed at me and we never saw her again.
myrabruneta36 points1y ago
As others said, I measure everything in the grande cup and pour it in after.
Also, had a woman today once she got to the drive thru window say she wanted her drink made with some vanilla bean powder after changing her drink from hot to iced. I took the time to add the powder in and charge her for the additional $.50 lol
Wanna change the drink at the last second?? I WILL charge you for it.
Distinct-Apartment399 points1y ago
I do this with mobile orders of things we ran out of too. If you’re an asshole, I’m gonna inconvenience both of us to charge you the 30¢ difference in your pastry item
dogsofwintergaming26 points1y ago
Well she pays extra for the extra frap roast and ice isn't something we'd charge for anyway so if it fills the cup up it isn't costing us more money.
I would as the SM talk to the lady about treating my team with respect and say "I would love to continue having you as a customer, but for that to happen I need you to speak more respectfully to my team". If she doesn't, I'd ask her to leave and only return when she felt able to be respectful.
astivana17 points1y ago
Extra frap roast isn’t an up charge for corporate stores
dogsofwintergaming5 points1y ago
It charges on the register for extra frap roast. Never checked on MOP.
ClassifiedChipotle3 points1y ago
Correct, $0.50 regardless of amount.
joviante4 points1y ago
it isn’t on mobile but if you click it it’s an uncharged, at least at my store.
sten4511 points1y ago
The day I stopped caring, really stopped caring about the scammers was a great day.
Lukesnowwalker9 points1y ago
I feel that i am constantly at a crossroad of not wanting to save Mr Starbuck money but at the same time wanting to put customers in their place 😩
Few-Tax-16472 points1y ago
Right like fuck corporations but… I’m petty.
DaybreakNightfall6 points1y ago
Make the drink up to the top black line then dump it in the venti cup.
SelocAvrap5 points1y ago
(just the first time so less waste) I'd always pour that shit in a grande cup until it's full so I can show that it's a grande amount, then pour it from the grande into the venti cup. That's a grande in a venti
persona-25 points1y ago
Also fill that grande cup, dump your pitcher, and then put the grande in the venti cup, so there is literally nothing else for you to hand her.
healthypenguins1 points1y ago
This would probably be my solution. I would also add any extra frap roast and syrup to the cup before milk, so the liquid volume stays the same. And for extra ice I only go one size up (use a grade plus a tall scoop for a venti extra ice). That mostly fixes the volume issue.
sero50745 points1y ago
Give them exactly what they order.
maemac2 points1y ago
Doesn’t it charge for extra frap roast? That charge alone would bump it up to venti price.. just buy the Venetian have your drink made right lol
august4011 points1y ago
orders like this have always bugged me cause i don't really care about the company getting less of its money it's the fact those customers think we're stupid enough not to notice
