Transferring/moving rant/vent thing? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by imalreadyasleep
Hi! So I have been a partner for about 7 months now (been a SSV the whole time). I'm going to ASU through Starbucks so they are paying completely for my college. I'm looking to move a few states away to be with my partner in a few months (early 2022- Nevada to Washington)
I haven't even brought up the idea of transferring with my SM. And at earliest I would want to transfer in mid January. I'm so anxious about it.
And then I got to thinking maybe I don't want to stay at Starbucks anymore. But they are paying for my college and I can't afford college or loans outside of that.
I'm so all over the place and I don't know what to do.
Ideally, I'd like a job where I don't have to work weekends, like a receptionist somewhere or something.
Don't get me wrong, I like Starbucks most days but lately it's been getting to be so much and my mental health is taking a toll.
I'm scared about asking my manager about transferring, I'm scared to leave, I want to stay because they are paying for college and things but ahhhhhh. I just was wondering if anyone else can share their experience with transferring or paying for ASU out of pocket or anything else 😅

If you are considering transferring, I would let your SM know asap, the new process to hire/promote SSVs takes longer and that gives your SM ample time to find someone and have them trained and ready to go when you leave. Transferring would give you the ability to update your availability (I don’t think any SM would take a shift with absolutely no weekend availability but hopefully you could have at least one weekend day off and a schedule that better fits your work/life balance). It also would be a fresh start and might be what you need to enjoy the job again. Ultimately you have to decide for yourself if staying with bux/ASU is right for you but as someone who’s 9 years out of college and still struggling to pay back student loans I personally think it’s a good idea to stay just until you finish school. Maybe you could go part time and find a part time receptionist job to make up the difference?

honestly if you’re moving to washington & want to keep your school but want a desk job, see if you can find something with corporate. your benefits might change bc different states & job titles but i think they still pay for ASU if you have a corporate position. something to consider
