This is odd. I thought they discontinued this program a few years ago.

Officially yes, but my DM is pretty cool and is supportive of any baristas wanting to further their knowledge in our work

Don't get me wrong, same. like, I've finished the coffee academy stuff, I've done the coffee passport and all that jazz and put way too much effort into this job. It's just for the most part no one really cares. They won't give you a black apron anymore cause they can't be ordered or made anymore, if they give you one it will probably be a hand me down and it's not like other baristas or shift leads will care either. Take pride in your work and if you are interested in coffee, do it. But this likely won't effect future pay raises and tbh as I unfortunately found out aren't the skills or things they care about or take into consideration when promoting to shift or further.

I mean. This doesn't seen like it matters, just like a way for you to try and push product and spend off time on work while not getting anything but more responsibilitys. Just do the starbucks coffee academy. That's prolly the most they'll have you do aside from coffee tastings

Thanks for your concerns and the tip! I like to put in the extra effort even if it doesn't mean extra pay
