What to do when working at Starbucks is not the same anymore? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by tdailydose
179xxxx right here. Honestly I am getting burnt out from Starbucks, it’s not the same how it used to be anymore. With labor shortage and poor management, I don’t know what to do anymore. With holiday around the corner, it’s definitely going to get hectic and it get overwhelmed. I am about to call it quits. I am the strongest partner in my store but I don’t know how long I will last. With shift supervisors being on my case caring so much about drive thru times than us doing our best to provide the best quality we can.
I need help on creating an exit plan, I just don’t know how to start. I took some time off to take care of my mental health. Since I took some time off to reflect, I realized I don’t want to work at Starbucks anymore. I dread going to work now and I am not happy. It took me this long that I can no longer provide my best performance. I hate it so much but at the same time I need something to help with my income if quit. Any suggestions or advice would help, thanks.

290xxxx former shift here. You’ve done an amazing thing by hanging in there for so long. I was in your shoes exactly a month or so ago. I decided I wanted to have a shorter commute and a job where I don’t have to wake up at 3:00 am. I went to Google maps and began calling and emailing every business around my apartment. Landed an awesome job answering phones at a florist. Same pay as Starbucks. It’s Heaven. There’s no rushing or micromanaging and I feel like I’m being treated like a competent adult. I hope you find something that works for you 🙏🏼 don’t be afraid to start looking!

Former SM...135\*\*\*\*..... when I started, the Bux was a family and absolutely fantastic....labor percentage and new drink routine mixed with micro-management from DM's and above changed the landscape forever. I commend you for making it this far. I stuck it out for 10 years. There are better options out there, it was hard to leave the benefits but my mental health immediately thanked me and that was worth all the benefit in the world

Have you looked into any local/small business coffee shops near you? Might be a more relaxed environment without the pressure of DT times that could work for you.

194* here, also have had this same struggle. Took time off for my mental health as well, and all I can think of is using that 10yr coffee break to sort things out a bit? Tho, it doesn't come as a paid break, but it seems like a good way to try out some other jobs or get more time for a job search going, and still have this one to come back to if you find yourself missing it or not able to find something good at the end of a year
(Just don't tell your sm and above that you're changing jobs/planning on quitting, etc)

My exit plan is to go on that 1 year leave in 2 yrs, keep working at my second job/open up my availability there, and find a new/different job during that freed up time. Hoping that I'll have enough $ or stock saved up to afford that for awhile. I mentioned it to my sm and she told me to not mention/tell her that i'll be quitting when i get ready to do that/formally fill out the paperwork, cuz then it becomes a thing she has to report and blah blah. Even tho it's already been done before like that, lol.

184 here. The window times they expect from us are not sustainable. And being expected to make up for the holes in newbie training while so understaffed and them being so badly trained is getting to everyone. At my store for every three people hired, two quit within the first month. I’ve casually been looking for other work but my burn out is so bad I’m too exhausted to do it seriously.
