To clarify- working actual Christmas Day at starbucks is 100% volunteer basis only if your store is open… there should be a sign up sheet issued by corporate hanging in the back room. Also- always submit a formal/documented request for time off. And if you do get scheduled on the Sunday after Christmas Day and decide to not go in, be sure to call out “sick” with as much notice as possible… don’t elaborate- just say you’ve been vomiting and stop talking.

That’s literally not a thing. Holidays are not voluntary. SMs can be nice and do a sign up sheet, but it’s not required.

In my 15 years at Starbucks, Christmas Day has always been voluntary
persona-2-2 points1y ago
That’s what I was told by everyone. And then my SM informed us it really isn’t and the DM backed her. It sucks, but there isn’t a policy anywhere saying it’s voluntary.

Ever figure that out?

I was a SM for ten years and I promise you, Christmas Day is volunteer only scheduled. I’m not sure why you were told otherwise.

Christmas is obviously a really popular time to request off. You have to do it ahead of time to ensure that you get it approved. I request mine like 4 months in advance
That said, you’re still a kid, worst comes to worst just don’t come to work on that day and take the write up 🤷🏼♀️. That’s what I would do. But your manager will probably be able to work with you. Just explain to them the situation, they’ll understand

Okay thank you. I would’ve requested off months ago but have never had a job during holidays before and didn’t even think of it until last week. I’m gonna text her again trying to work with her and will take the write up worst case scenario

Good luck! I hope it works out and she understands

Idk if this is something that you’d do, but I would involve my parents via letter or something in order for your manager to take it serious. I think sometimes they don’t take young folk serious or think you’re lying. Also I think it’s the best way to avoid taking the blame for it and having the adults figure it out. — also the partner hub is famous for not working so I can see that happening

ah thank you! this will help a lot in the future. do you think I should request off Christmas weekend right now in the system after I’ve already texted her? Or would that be useless and weird, since she already said she’s denying it?
salaciainthedepths2 points1y ago
There’s no point - the request will just get sent to her and she’ll deny it, if anything it’s just gonna annoy her. Sadly it isn’t her fault you left it until late in the season to try book it off. Everyone would rather not be working - it isn’t really fair to demand the entire festive weekend off when it’s too late.
If you aren’t mature enough to manage your own schedule or have to have your parents decide when you can work, you might not be mature enough for the job. Sorry if this sounds harsh! But I think that’s your SM’s view on this.

Request the time off, then there’s another attempt at taking it off and getting it denied.

Google “Starbucks teamworks” and a Reddit link should come up. Click on it and a link is in one of the comments and you just log into that. The same thing happened to me
