stop ordering a drink while i’m literally making drinks 💀 (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Mammoth_Nerve3758
i’m totally one for greeting people when they walk in, but just bc i’m the only one who said anything or because i’m near the registers (our drive thru bar is right besides the registers up front) doesn’t mean you can order from me 😭

i’ll be literally drowning in drinks & customers will stop right in front of the bar like “can i get a venti *insert drink*”. i try to be nice about it and tell them my coworker will be able to help them at the registers but sometimes they look dumbfounded that i have the audacity to tell them i can’t take their order.

does anyone else have this issue? is it just me?

this happens to me all the time🥲 i’ll be like “hi welcome in” and they then start ordering and i’m like “oh you can order at the register!” and then they’re like “oh i thought you were taking my order because you said hello” LIKE WHAT???
animallive 39 points 1y ago
LITWRALLYYYY im so hesitant to say hello to ppl now when im making drinks
Muted_Obligation4501 23 points 1y ago
Just obnoxiously pull down the steaming wand as they order and look them in the eyes until they leave to the registers 😂
dead-ramone 31 points 1y ago
Steam some heavy cream and make eye contact with them while it screams lmaooo
Muted_Obligation4501 7 points 1y ago
Yes lmao that sound is so vile
Asleep-Investment-51 23 points 1y ago
yes it makes me so mad i’m not a bartender!! and then i think about how shitty they probably have it too

I needed a break from bartending, but after a few years at the Bucks... might be ready to go back.

You can tell bar patrons, "No," and your manager will generally have your back because they don't want to mess with their liquor license. All you have to do to cut people off or never start serving them to begin with is to imply they are already inebriated or intoxicated on something, lol.

"Miami Vice."

"No."

"Excuse me? MIAMI VICE. GET ME YOUR MANAGER."

\*\*\*\*walks into BOH\*\*\*\*

"Manager, guest wants you. I refused service."

"Why did you refuse service?"

"Pretty sure they're already fucked up."

"Why do you think that?"

"They ordered a Miami Vice."

"Okay. Call the cops if they refuse to leave."

Bartending is both good & bad but when you make great it helps
lewabwee 15 points 1y ago
Yeah they do that shit all the time. Like even if they thought they had to order from me why would they assume while I’m not even looking at them is the time to do it?
impasse602 12 points 1y ago
No joke i was taking a dt order and this last walks to the front register and started ordering because she heard my greeting on dt and thought i was talking to her
lewabwee 5 points 1y ago
Yeah this has happened a few times to me

The worst is when you set a drink on handoff and you hear “I hand a sandwich is it ready yet?!”
Ma’am I have no idea do I look like I have an oven right here?
JeanLucPicardsAss 3 points 1y ago
This is my least favourite thing its so annoying. Ive decided that next time I'm just gonna let them order to me:

"I will take a ______?

"Oh yeah great choice"

*customer waits for something to happen, or tries to hand me money*

"Oh... do you think this is a register? No.. this is an espresso machine, there is no change in here."
JeanLucPicardsAss 4 points 1y ago
Also yesterday someone stood at the cash and YELLED their order to me. I was running around with a blender in my hand. Sir????
BrotatoChip04 3 points 1y ago
At this point I just ignore them or pretend like I didn’t hear them. They eventually walk away. I don’t get paid enough to deal with that kind of nuisance
Comprehensive-Gate94 3 points 1y ago
You guys are so kind. I deadass be saying things like “oh my coworker with the register can help you over there since I don’t have one in front of me.”
scorpioxqueeeenn 3 points 1y ago
Me w five cups in my hand

Lady: a tall salted caramel cold brew
Mammoth_Nerve3758 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
me: pouring shots and caramel on a macchiato

customer: are you going to take my order???
scorpioxqueeeenn 1 points 1y ago
Like im clearly busy let me drop everything for you!!!
Mammoth_Nerve3758 [OP] 2 points 1y ago
i literally dropped everything for a woman at the register today because it was just two of us (me and another guy who was busy with dto/dtr, i was solo bar) and after i took her order she told me she had a milk allergy which is why she was persistent on almond milk, i then asked her if she wanted me to sanitize the pitcher that was she was no way of getting sick from cross contamination. she said yes and then got impatient and asked me to hurry up with her drink because she had somewhere to be 😐 ma’am, i can’t sanitize a pitcher FASTER
IcyColdBrew 1 points 1y ago
Ummm. She deserves a slight bit of stomach discomfort for her rudeness and impatience.
Malevolent_barnacle 3 points 1y ago
Yeah, that tends to happen to me too. I just say sure thing, why don't you go visit (register barista) they'd love to get you started 🙃🙃
moldyhotpocket 2 points 1y ago
Working here has made me realize how weird people are with starbucks. All my life I have never seen customers so confused on where or how to order their drinks.
Short-Suit-3374 2 points 1y ago
This is why I don't say hi when im on bar lmao
Grouchy_Arugula7257 2 points 1y ago
I just say "Hi, I'll be with you in a minute" and turn around or turn off my headset until I'm ready. They can wait 🤷‍♀️
abigaildumbrique 1 points 1y ago
SAMEEE

my store also has a drive thru so sometimes i’ll be on dtb with a headset on, visibly and blatantly busy, and customers still have the audacity to ask me for a straw i need to get from the other side of the store, or if their cafe drink is “coming up next”
nightshiftequalsdead 1 points 1y ago
I just say, oh the registers are over there. 👉🏻where the people are standing and behind the long line.

Ugh for real. I’m on bar making drinks and the register is clearly on the side of me and I’m not in front of it and I say “hi how are you” so they don’t feel ignored and they just stand in front of the mastrena as if it’s a cash register and try to give me their order. I’ve changed my approach to if there’s no one currently at the register greeting them with a “hello we’ll be with you shortly!” It works 75% of the time…
