@licensed store baristas: how do you close? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by No-Dimension-1035
C+ping my post from r/Starbucks:
We usually have one closer scheduled from 4:00-8:30 (with another person for 30 min- 1 hr) closing at 7:30 pm. Thanksgiving it’ll be 2 of us with 30 minutes.

It’s a smallish kiosk, but our sales are through the roof rn, while our staff has never been smaller. I’ve just started closing, coming in around 4:00 and holy shit- I am stressed from start to finish. Today I was literally in tears, I even had a customer ask if I was okay. I’d like to start closing tasks a lot earlier than instructed ( we’re told to start around 7:00) since that seems to be the best way to get it done but it’s difficult to do so with the constant flow of customers. Earliest I’ve been able to start is 6:00 and it’s still taking too long despite my best efforts. I’m genuinely wondering if I’m crazy or just the slowest idiot on earth for taking so long to close. I know I’m not the only employee who’s struggling to close, but damn.

I start doing remakes and quick cleaning at around 5 if I get the chance. The kiosk closes at 8, I’m scheduled to be done closing by 8:30. I regularly stay until 10 just to get everything done and set up my opener well. I can get everything done and close by 9 if I have 2 people closing, but by myself I stay until 10. No, my managers are not happy about this, and no, they haven’t given me a second closer 🙃

Oooof. Very similar situation. Feels like there is no getting through to management/winning with them. I got written up for a meal code violation the first time I closed. I came in super last minute without training for a no-show coworker and it just took sooooo long to figure the closing instructions I was left with and shit out. Really irks because while my Sbux manager prob. would’ve vouched for me (they were out sick) at least, general store management seems to have zero idea of our workload and are a lot less forgiving despite our best efforts.

Hey that happened to me too! Except I was opening with no instructions after my ex-manager no-showed. It was my 4th shift 😭
