SSV here- it’s best practice for the person requesting the shift or the person giving up the shift to include the other barista and the SSV for that day/time in a group chat so that all bases are covered. everyone is thereby present for the conversation and is made aware of the change as, sometimes, shit happens and someone forgets or gets sick etc etc and the responsibility of the shift and it’s coverage has shifted from barista a to barista b. if it wasn’t acknowledged/approved the responsibility will ALWAYS fall in the barista a and that can make for a grumpy situation. keep in mind also that some areas (i am in philly) have work labor laws that make swaps a little different and require a small amount of paperwork. it’s best to check in with your SSV or SM to clarify!

normally at my store the person who’s shift is being covered will just text a shift and let them know but that might be wrong as well LOL
