Spill the beans/I heard a rumor(self.starbucksbaristas)

That store managers get bonuses for low drive times during peak hours which is why they push so hard during those hours and then leave the floor understaffed all afternoon/evening.
Is it true?
ItzBoogieMan66 points1y ago
Do you know if they receive bonuses if they spend less money monthly or weekly or someshit? Because the Pitcher Rinsing thing whatever it’s called is broken in our store and our fuckin manager will do anything but order a new one and we have to suffer on bar because she rarely goes on bar🙄
OverlyRoastedBean31 points1y ago
Yes, they get a bonus depending on how under budget they are. I had to deal with the same shit with a previous manager.
dfarner9 points1y ago
No they don’t. It’s only sales.
Cathach22 points1y ago
Only sales, and it's district or region wide too.
drowninginristretto1 points1y ago
Sales are taken into account, but they have to stay under budget, and budget is allocated by sales
SBUXPartner2121 points1y ago
This is not true at all. Just sales are the only thing that affects a bonus and the other metrics are just meant to be met as job expectations
drowninginristretto2 points1y ago
I’m just reciting what my stingy manager said before she quit. She wouldn’t let us buy new equipment to replace what was broken or buy milk when she messed up our order, but then as soon as she announced that she was leaving, she went and bought everything that she wouldn’t let us before because “I’m not getting my bonus either way”
OtherAcctTrackedNSA28 points1y ago
What??? We go through one every few months at my Target Starbucks, I literally treat it as a consumable item and ALWAYS keep a backup on hand, as I do with blender pitcher, cf pitcher, and airpots.
Fuck a budget, y’all should have working equipment!
AwayPlantain75362 points1y ago
One of your supervisors should be able to put in a ticket to fix it without needing approval from your sm?
kell031338 points1y ago
Literally all these bonus theories are false. SM’s bonuses are solely based on sales comp over the previous year. Right now it’s even more complicated because it’s based on the entire region’s sales not just their own store.
Better DT times mean happier customers, meaning they will choose your store again and again because they can count on getting in and out quickly. Peak is also when you see the most customers within the quickest time frame so you have the most opportunity to grow your business. Theoretically faster times = higher sales.
As for the pcard/ordering product all of that affects the stores Profit & Loss. Some DMs are more focused on this than others, looking for ways to maximize the stores profit, but again that doesn’t affect the SM’s bonus just the stores bottom line.
dfarner11 points1y ago
This is the truth
BobTheBloatedFish5 points1y ago
Yup. This.
jaynaenae5 points1y ago
Best and most accurate answer.
dfresh30003 points1y ago
Yep - all other “theories” are bunk
Craftyallthetime30 points1y ago
I don’t work at a store with a drive through, but I know my manager tries to have the right amount of coverage for the entire day, not just during peak. We’ve closed early because a couple of people got sick and called out for the afternoon shifts, not leaving enough partners to do their jobs properly.
amalia13lightning33 points1y ago
That’s because your manager isn’t eligible for the DT bonus. Probably cares more about the customer connection bonus.
SBUXPartner2124 points1y ago
There is no customer connection bonus or drive through bonus. Just sales comp bonus.

I have an old friend who is an asm and from what I hear they do. They also get a bigger bonus the less money they spend on the store card. What I don’t know is if they get a bigger bonus by having lower labor hours cause even when my store had staff we were always short on labor and our sm got mad if we went over. Long story short a big corporate lady from Seattle came in for a visit and told the staff “we’re a multi billion-dollar business labor hours don’t matter.”
be_wilder_everyday [OP]17 points1y ago
*Deep, heavy soul-crushing sigh* Yeah that tracks...
celizabeth92213 points1y ago
This is not true about the store card, or labor hours. It’s all based on store sales and comp over previous year. Back in the day there was a bonus around controllable contribution which would involve what you mentioned but it hasn’t been that way for about six years.
be_wilder_everyday [OP]14 points1y ago
Then why does the entire team get beaten up over drive through times everyday? Its ruining a very solid and awesome work environment.
StarbzBoi5 points1y ago
Faster times equals more customer which equals more sales = more stressed/unhappy partners
dfresh30003 points1y ago
More sales = the ability to schedule more partners
H3palien4 points1y ago
It’s about respecting the customers time to build loyalty to build sales to pay employees
H3palien9 points1y ago
That is not how the bonus works, it is literally just how much sales have grown over the previous year. That’s it. Source: former SM
dfarner7 points1y ago
They only bonus on sales. Spending money has nothing to do with it. The drive thru time is indirectly related. More cars is more sales.
celizabeth9227 points1y ago
This is false. Store managers bonus based on store sales comped from the previous year and what the company deems the % is. Also they can get an extra bonus if the store makes over 50k/week for an average over the course of a year.
be_wilder_everyday [OP]7 points1y ago
Then why the incredible obsession with drive times while we have a floor full of frazzled green beans and are cranking out a lobby full of in person orders & mobiles.
At my store I can honestly say everyone does their bery best and works hard every day. Why are we judged by a single metric? Arent we already doing ebough work for the Starbucks money machine?
celizabeth9224 points1y ago
The problem with drive times is that it’s a metric that the company looks at intensely.
Store managers have to speak to their previous weeks drive times every single Monday following each business week and explain why they weren’t where they should be.
Drive times, customer connection score (which is a joke bc of the way the system is laid out), how often you turned MOP off, and weekly sales total are all things you have to speak to and are held accountable for constantly.
Additionally, there is a saying that “every second you can bring your drive thru average down annually = $10,000 in sales” so theoretically I suppose you could tie that back into the store manager bonus but that’s the least of it honestly.
be_wilder_everyday [OP]15 points1y ago
Well that is all well and good (and by that I mean terrible and dystopian) but its influencing our store culture to the point where green beans are cracking under the pressure because they cant figure things out fast enough to be good enough.
So they leave and we are screwed all over again because our store culture is destroyed by this toxic bullshit and their personal insecurities.
I want it to stop.
122lllllooo2 points1y ago
I was told it’s bs
Brief_Coat65262 points1y ago
Bonus are based on sales comp and not going over expenses…

It is absolutely true. My district became incredibly competitive bc this and had to have DM get involved because hostility between stores due to competition
dfarner6 points1y ago
It’s absolutely not true
furry_anus_explosion-3 points1y ago
The top store on the district absolutely does get a bonus for the SM
dfarner4 points1y ago
Most sms get a bonus. But it only relates to sales. The drive times and connection score are not a metric for bonusing
drinkliquidclocks-2 points1y ago
This is true for most any retail manager, that's why they care so much
iindiieecindiee-1 points1y ago
Yes it’s true. My SM was bragging about our morning drive times and said something about her bonus at the end of the year will be good.
StarbzBoi9 points1y ago
False💩. Bonus is based of year over year sales and not drive times. Faster drive times may lead to more sales as burned our partners but drive times alone aren’t calculated in a bonus
