venti rant: Being a people pleaser gets you no where when people don’t care (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Mammoth_Nerve3758
personally i wouldn’t consider myself a people pleaser, i’m quiet the opposite but when i’m on the clock i check my attitude and go out of my way to really sell the whole “SBUX experience”

today i dropped everything for a woman who was being really impatient at the register, keep in mind there was only two of us for a good hour. my coworker was on dto/dtr and i was on solo bar, i don’t mind it but i do when customers know we’re incredibly busy and still decide to take their impatience out on us.

she snapped at me to hurry and take her order so i did and apologized for the wait, but her order was pretty simple, just a hot chocolate with almond milk. she talked to me for a good few minutes so i had to rush and make a few drinks to catch up our drive thru. halfway through making two drinks after speaking with her she interrupted me and said to be 100% sure that i use almond milk.

i explained that there was no way to mess up bc the milk variation is printed on the sticker, once she told me she had a dairy allergy i asked if she would like me to sanitize the milk pitcher, that way she would have no chance of getting sick.

she agreed, but about 3 minutes later she interrupted me again and told me to hurry on her drink because she had places to be.

there’s no way to sanitize things FASTER, but i apologized again for the wait and tried to prioritize her drink.

I really tried everything to make the experience better but she just kept complaining about the wait and how we should’ve had her drink out fast since she was one of five people in cafe (even though we had a line of 10+ cars in drive) 🥲

Hmmm… This is really nice of you. Of course, we are expecting to make it right and create tht human connection with every customer. But for you to prioritize one person over all the others, is her fault for being selfish when there are a lot of people in this world and a lot of them go to Starbucks. I think you did a great job. She was just incredibly entitled and selfish. Don’t beat yourself up over it, and I’m glad you ranted about it to get it off your chest. People suck and may have good intentions but the way the majority of customers at Starbucks speak, carry themselves, and act, is just childish. You are awesome and doing amazing. I’m proud of you for not chucking the steam pitcher at her😂😂

Honestly some people are just really dedicated to being miserable! You were so kind, don’t even worry about, it’s not a reflection of you but of her

One thing anyone who has owned or managed a business knows is that there is a certain percentage of your customer base that you're better off without. Better to "fire" these customers than to continually spend an inordinate amount of resources trying to satisfy those who will never be satisfied.

Sbux upper management has, unfortunately, not learned this.

Don't spend too much of your mental energy on the 5-10% of customers who, frankly, aren't worth it.
