Mental Issues (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Interesting-Start408
Working at starbucks is so intense, everything is on fast forward in close quarters! I was diagnosed with BP and BPD (borderline personality disorder) a looong time ago and have always taken my medication regularly, but this job really brings out the worst in me. Anyone else have a mental illness and are experiencing mental health issues or “outbursts “ because of this job? I am mortified and embarrassed. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Hostile shift supervisors, crappy customers, …

I went to the psych ward 2 months after my original hire date in 2019, lol- you're not alone. It's very stimulating, the enviornment in our job, but once you get used to it and the anxiety of not knowing what you're doing goes away, you'll feel better.

Hi! Partner w BPD too here! I’ve gotten upset w my sm many times, my first day w/o my trainer i was VERY close to snapping at my ssv bc she was micromanaging the hell out of me. i’m pretty good at dealing w angry customers by refusing to apologize when they’re rude, even if i messed up their drink or something lol if you’re rude to me about it that makes me not sorry. refusing to give them the pity they so desperately want is 🤌🏻🤌🏻

i completely agree a bunch of ppl have been having a tough time including me , so i did what was best and put in my 2 weeks. i just feel this holiday launch and the color red overall causes more anxiety it’s all psychological like if ur surrounding urself w aggressive customers and ofc an aggressive color then it surely gets to you. also daylights saving is a cherry on top. that is literally why so many are effected rn. i hope the best for you!!!

Stress definitely makes BP/BPD flare up, I have BP and it’s understandable for this job to create instability/set off an episode. Ive had to call off a few times, go cry in the bathroom, switch positions on the floor, but at the end of the day mental health is first and starbucks is just a job. No one should endure mental breakdowns over a minimum wage job and entitled customers/coworkers

you are so right. it gets so freaking intense at work, we’re all drinking caffeine and in each other’s faces lol. i wish i could find something to instantly calm me down, i don’t have enough time to go to the bathroom and cry bec my irritation is so intense.
