Working past scheduled time(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Accomplished-Claim94
So I used to work night shifts but I took myself off because every time I’d close with my manager we’d end up staying up to 40 minutes pass the time we were scheduled to leave. Now my manager scheduled us to leave at 2:30 on thanksgiving but he’s saying we probably won’t get out till 4:30. If he thinks we’re gonna get out at 4:30 then he should schedule it. Is he allowed to do this, would I face any consequences if I leave at 2:30?

You do not have to stay 1 minute past your scheduled time. Especially if it's not within your availability.

For me, if it is not an unreasonable ammount of time as well as if it is in my availability I stay. This is because as long as my hours are being counted, I am being paid. And money makes the world go round. But if you do not want to/can not stay, you are not required to stay past your shift.

I would simply just state you had plans with friends/family at 3pm and couldn't stay later. As a manager myself, I would never get mad at that and honestly look at myself to schedule better in the future.

You’re scheduled to leave at 2:30. Get a picture of the schedule and clock out at 2:30. If your manager starts making threats, get in contact with your DM, show them the schedule, and explain the situation. You don’t have to stay a minute past your scheduled time.

You wouldn't get in trouble if you leave at your scheduled time. However if you actually are free past 2:30 tomorrow, and only tomorrow, I'd stay cause it's time and a half pay.
