‘Thank You’ Gifts for Thanksgiving employees?? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by [deleted]
Hey sbux people, I want to preface that I DO NOT work at Starbucks. If that gets my post deleted so be it lol.
So today is Thanksgiving, and I’m badly craving Starbucks. HOWEVER I low key feel terrible that there are baristas working today, so wanted to have a small gift or something to give to the drive thru workers. Are y’all allowed to accept anything while working?? If so, what? (what would be nice to get)??
Thank you in advance! 🦃💛

Tbh the easiest way to express gratitude is a tip.
amelia_but_trash 25 points 1y ago
Oh I didn’t know that tips were allowed!! There used to be a tip jar at the drive thru but it’s been gone for a while, i thought it was new policy or something. Thank you!!
rudebii 34 points 1y ago
It’s possible that they removed the tip jar from the DT window to avoid people driving off with it.

The DT store nearest to me did that, when I asked if they stopped taking tips they explained it to me and brought out the jar.

If you want, put it in an envelope and explain it’s a tip for the staff at the window.

Doughnuts are cool and cheap.
People get stupidly excited for doughnuts for some reason.
k8mitchy 11 points 1y ago
THIS - we had someone bring in two dozen for us around 9:30 and everyone flipped
the1noir 8 points 1y ago
Right? Like I never eat doughnuts and when a customer brings them in I’m like “oh fuck, doughnuts? Fuck yesss”

At my store, you volunteer to work holidays! I always work Thanksgiving/Christmas so I can have New Years off. Everyone has to sign up for at least one holiday, and on Christmas Eve/Day tips are shared between only the partners working that day, not the whole staff.
barista-baby 13 points 1y ago
we were required to “volunteer” for 3/5 holidays (thanksgiving, christmas eve, christmas day, new years eye, new years day), not really a choice haha
empidge 8 points 1y ago
you guys get a choice for that? we only volunteer for christmas. we’re forced to work on the other holidays. we had a sign up sheet for thanksgiving but people got scheduled that didn’t sign up because we had to have enough staff to open):

If you didn’t have enough staff to open then you shouldn’t have opened at all. My store is closed for this reason
empidge 1 points 1y ago
that’s what i said but my store manager said we didn’t have a choice lol

My store did this same thing but my SM included Black Friday as a holiday. Is it not considered a holiday technically? 😅
sunflowercupcakee 5 points 1y ago
If you have to sign up for at least one holiday, it’s not exactly volunteering. Only like 4 people wanted to work at my store today. However, we are open from 6 to 6 so most of us were voluntold to work today
It_is_Katy 2 points 1y ago
That sucks. We volunteer to work holidays, and you don't have to volunteer if you don't want to. If you don't explicitly request off and not enough people sign up, you might be scheduled, but they do really try to only schedule the people that want to work that day and approve everyone else's request to be off.

At my store I signed up to work today and we get paid 1.5 times and everyone that works that day shares the tips instead of the whole staff. As long as youre not getting a huge order like 7 items we don’t mind.
Tips are a wonderful sign of gratitude. I’m a barista so I’m not exactly sure but I think we can accept something like desserts, especially if they’re store bought.

For me when someone lets me know that they’re very grateful for what I’m doing it actually makes my day a lot better.

There was one customer who always brought us brownies he had made, and a separate vegan tray for our vegan coworkers. (You don’t need to do anything crazy, your post just made me think of him.)

Tips with the name on ✉. Its the easiest way personally I know we aren't allowed to receive physical items.

I'm not working Thanksgiving this year but the best way is with a tip tbh. If you pay with the app, that's the easiest way to do it. And as long as you don't order a bunch of complicated drinks and food items we appreciate your gratitude and kindness more than anything. But if you feel like adding in baked goods, my store won't say no :)

you cant be sorry we are working if you are participating in why we are working lol. Capitalist america on its capitalist holiday

Clearly you don't feel terrible that the baristas have to work or you wouldn't be going. We're only open because people like you still have to have their starbucks on a holiday that people should be spending with their families.
