Before, always. Not getting paid, not making shit.

We're supposed to clock out and then do it but 30 min is such a short time to relax and eat I always do it after I make my food and drink

Before, honestly mostly because it's more efficient. I'm probably already standing at bar or right next to it on drive thru, so it's better to do my thing and then go clock out so I'm out of everyone's way faster, instead of scurrying back and forth looking for one of the iPads or going to the computer in the back, clocking out, and then going back over and becoming a road block.

I really couldn't care less about the extra 75¢ I make by delaying clocking out 2-3 minutes. It's just more convenient for both me and my coworkers.

It depends. If I want to take my time making my food and drink I’ll clock out first but if I’m just grabbing something really quickly and it takes me less than two minutes I’ll clock out after. I want to be courteous to my partners on the floor. I’ve sent baristas on their lunch just for them to take ten minutes to get their things and then finally clock out…if I send you on your lunch I expect you back in roughly half an hour, not 40 minutes. To me it’s less about whether or not I’m getting paid and more about helping run a smooth floor by acknowledging that I’m not the only person on the floor that needs a break and if I take a long time then I’m inconveniencing the other people on the floor.

Yeah, it's a fine balance. I do the same, especially when I'm CS. Start my sammy, refill cups, queue my shots, get a bucket if ice. Clock out. Sometimes I feel guilty when I talk to my baristas about delaying their lunch or dilly dallying before clocking out. But what I do versus making a frilly frap with cold foam and whatnot for 10 minutes before clocking out is different. I agree that Starbucks can afford it, and when we're slow I don't care, but at peak it's hurting other partners more than anything.

Everything on the clock

I usually do it before I clock out. I only do things fast though. I know it’s a billion dollar company and they’ll be fine but my store is understaffed and I’m more likely to screw over my coworkers than the company itself by taking too long. I don’t think I or anyone else has to kill themselves to avoid screwing over their coworkers but I’ve worked with a lot of people who take tons of time to prepare for their breaks and go to the bathroom after they clock in and the company doesn’t notice the difference but their coworkers do. It’s a balance.

My break timer doesn’t start until I am seated with my drink and food. I do everything on the clock, period. Including using the restroom even if I am scheduled to leave in 5 minutes. Billion dollar company. They’ll be fine.

Before, and I wait until I clock back in after my lunch to go to the bathroom

To be honest we’re supposed to do it after we clock out but I don’t do any work for free 😭 so I do it before I clock out
boopsbittie 2 points 1y ago
Sometimes I’ll punch it through before I leave so the person on the position makes it by then time I’m on my half, but either way I wait until the bar or warming partner makes it while I’m off the clock

When I send someone on their break I always tell them to start their food or drink before they do whatever tasking they have on their card, then afterwards they can go & their food is ready when they clock out. It seems to make things flow better.

I mean technically we’re not supposed to mark out our own drinks and make them. But ultimately it’s up to the store managers discretion on what they want to enforce. Partners at my store were taking advantage of it so now they have to either make there drink after they clock out or wait for it to be made.

Before because usually while I'm preparing my items I'm answering questions (customer or partners) or helping with something else. Not to mention if I did it off the clock and went through proper channels it would take nearly all break to get all my items

After. If it’s not work related you shouldn’t expect to get paid
