availability approved- but sm not following it(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by weasel-kun
i put in an availability request to basically work every day, besides sunday- as i’d like my sundays off. i made myself available from monday-saturday, 5 am to 3 pm
my request got approved but the next schedule came out and i’m working that sunday. it’s not a huge deal as i’m getting some other days off, but i wish they’d actually acknowledge my request instead of just approving it and disregarding it.
also another thing to rant about, they’re scheduling me SPECIFICALLY 5.75 hours so i don’t get a lunch break
i’m usually always put on bar so having that 30 mins to chill out is important to me. and even then, my ssv are late on handing out breaks. and being on bar the whole shift, every shift, a late ten min break just doesn’t cut it.
i heard from one of my ssv that they’re gonna start cutting back on hours because we have too much staffing YET whenever i go into work, it’s still just me and two other people on the floor. this is definitely gonna make me want to quit

Welcome to Starbucks. Also y’all have the ability to request sundays off? That’s our busiest day smh.

my sm allows us to either take saturday or sunday off, just not both. so i figured i could ask for sundays off, since at our store, saturdays are our busiest

Well they are allowed to mark themselves as not available but they will still be scheduled on those days so not sure you really want to work for that SM

Remind them of it, sometimes they might go off your old availability without realizing it. That being said, if they continue to be disrespectful and schedule you on Sunday, just dont go in. If they call, ignore it. When they try to write you up the next day remind them THEY approved you not working those days. Youre not available, theres a reason you put it down as such. You cannot go in, simple as that

If you just submitted this availability it most likely won’t go into effect for about 2-3 weeks when they make the newest schedule, but you can always double check with your manager too

i made this request two weeks before the new schedule came out

I would just connect with your Sm in a respectful way and mention that your availability has Sunday as not available so you will not be able to work Sundays, because they approved it. Also, let them know you’re willing to work longer shifts so you may potentially get more hours. It just comes down to your SM knowing your preferences and being able to work with them. I don’t know the availability of your other partners, maybe your SM has hella partners with availability to open, but not a lot to close, that could’ve the cause of you getting shorter shifts so that other partners with a similar availability as you can get their hours too. Just connect with them, let them know you appreciate their understanding in honoring your availabilities
