ASU and benefits question! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by PositiveDragonfly1
I was hoping someone could give me an idea of how strict the Starbucks Benefits center is when it comes to "initial eligibility" for benefits. I was rehired this past August after moving away and quitting for a little over a year, and before that I had worked full time with full benefits and everything for over two years. Now that I am back, I picked up where I left off with the same partner numbers, pay rate and everything, but my benefits hours started back at zero obviously. I've been working about 30 hours/week since I got back in late July, but apparently still don't have the required 520 to start getting benefits again yet. I hadn't even realized this until after I applied to this upcoming semester at ASU, paid for my transcripts to all be sent over, submitted my FAFSA (I know, I'm dumb), and then I finally got an email asking if I wanted to link my Starbucks numbers to my application before they processed it and, that's when I realized that I still won't reach 520 benefit hours for another couple of months and, therefore I won't be able to get my tuition benefit through SCAP. I wish I hadn't just assumed I was eligible for benefits because now I am so bummed!! Anyways, was just looking for some insight I guess, on whether I should even bother calling to beg them to let me qualify for the SCAP (free tuition benefit) Grant or if I should just wait until the fall semester, or if my benefits will reimburse me once I get them, maybe, if I were to just pay for this semester with student loans? Thankssss!!!

I would double check because audits are in January and July and with you working 30 hrs/week you should be getting pretty dang close to hitting the hours needed. Go look at your paystub $1 you might have to do it from a computer and enable pop ups but it shows up under BEN hours. Also in the last weekly update the hours changed from 520 to 450 for this audit period. You have to hit the hours in the paystub that comes out December 31st so the last day to get hours would be December 26th.
