Cold bar and hot bar pumps (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by [deleted]
I’ve been working at starbucks for like 4 months and I still don’t understand the hot bar and the cold bar pumps. I know the cold bar pumps are like half doses, I think, but when do you use those over hot bar pumps. why is there a hot bar caramel and a cold bar caramel. i’m just so confused

Cold bar pumps are used for cold bar drinks, think frappes and etc. they are just half a hot bar pump

what all counts as a cold bar drink? is an iced coffee and cold brew a cold bar? like if there’s a caramel iced coffee which one do I use

My trainer explained it to me like if it's naturally hot then it gets hotbar pumps, so iced coffee is brewed hot and then cooled down so its hot bar pumps, espresso drinks are hot bar because espresso is hot, things like fraps and shaken drinks are cold bar pumps, and cold brew is cold bar because it's not brewed hot. I hope that makes sense 🙏

If someone orders a regular cold brew with syrup it still gets the full (hot bar) pumps. The only time cold brew gets half (cold bar) pumps are the vanilla sweet cream/honey almond milk cold brew or the menu cold brews that come with cold foam (salted caramel, irish cream, etc). Any similar drinks they develop in the future are almost guaranteed to follow this same build.

If someone adds an additional syrup to one of those drinks though then you do the full pumps of that one. So if someone orders the vanilla sweet cream cold brew add caramel syrup, it would get the normal two pumps vanilla (or four cold bar pumps) and then a full four pumps caramel unless they specify otherwise. I usually like to ask.

They made it all very confusing, but just remember that if the cold brew automatically comes topped with milk/cold foam then it only gets half pumps in the base itself.

underrated comment forsure! even older partners at my store get stuck on when to use the full / half pumps when it comes to cold brews especially, this really helps
