Any baristas have advice for a new barista? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by caspi3
I just finished my training and I still feel like I have no idea what’s going on. Any baristas who’ve been thru this have any advice?

It gets easier. I think for about 2 weeks i still felt stressed out and like i didn’t know what was happening but now I’m a pretty strong partner. It takes time but some tips are always ask questions if you have them (no one is gonna think you’re annoying) and always be willing to work any position without complaining!! You got this :)

my trainer and all my coworkers told me to give yourself 3 months to feel comfortable and 6 months to feel like you know everything. i’ve been here for 2 1/2 months and it seems to be true so far.

Even, if you don't personally believe in Starbucks values/mission statement etc for the hours they're paying you live those values. Will make your life so much easier. Also, when you're not in work enjoy your life and do the things you love.

If you're unsure about something please ASK, don't just take random guesses and try to make it work. We'd rather help you and coach you in the moment then stop what we're doing later to fix a mess of many steps.

- Get flash cards! Ask your fellow barista if they have any handy at store or make your own to keep in your pocket. It’s nice for syrup pumps and shots for the various drink types
- Don’t be afraid to ask questions! We’d rather have lots of questions than needing to remake drinks
- Accept it’ll be chaos for a bit but slowly get better as you go
- ask to be put on bar during slower times as much as possible, you’ll thank yourself later

I’ve been at Starbucks 6 months and still don’t know what is going on. No worries 😉

don’t over think it. learning is hard and it takes time.

tbh i have always worked drive/window moew than bar or anything because I'm really good at customer service so by the time I started doing bar I didn't know much considering id been working there for like 2.5 months already but you seriously do get used to it and, even though it feels annoying, never be afraid to ask questions if you don't understand something! i think that's my biggest tip.

always ask questions about things you still arent understanding and don't rush yourself in learning and know you'll get the hang of it! you got this :)

spread the love and stay supportive. ask a million questions and stand up for yourself. ALWAYS ask for help when you need it. it’ll get easier :)

TAKE DEEP BREATHS! use 10s to your advantage. Try to keep work stress at work, and whenever you feel like ur drowning or confused, sit down with SM/Shift and talk to them about how ur feeling. especially if they’re in your corner.

and take advantage of whatever benefits you qualify for because there are so many that make the pay and hours much more worth it!
