Karen’s mobile order… (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by tiara1020
So I am a shift at my store and I was trying to complete my pull and my baristas are yelling for me to come help them cuz something is going on. I was told that a customer was upset about the mobile order. When I walked out I was generally confused about what was going on… this is where I get even more confused. This lady is so pissed that she mobile ordered a short hot chocolate but it had some modifications that my barista followed. The modifications were no foam, no mocha drizzle, NO MOCHA!!! My baristas made it as a steamer and didn’t question it and that is what she was upset about. She said maybe it’s my fault about ordering wrong but she would of read it as a “read flag” and made it with mocha. I had to explained to her that we are trained to make what is on the sticker and I have had my fair share of customers get mad about us not making what they ordered. She said she is going to call corporate and going to tell them that we didn’t communicate her mobile order was correct for her… we remade it of course but we were just all sitting there like 🧐😳 was I in the wrong or was there another way I could of handled that??
Thanks for reading my rant lol

So she got mad because it was just a steamer with no mocha like she wanted? 😂
tiara1020 [OP] 54 points 1y ago
Exactly. So was like I’ll take that as my own fault but this is where u messed up like huh???
Independent-Arm-642 23 points 1y ago
Customers baffle me sometimes lmao

I literally said have a great day and she was so freaking happy I was like Umm okay that was interesting. I just laughed it off
Prineak 16 points 1y ago
What is she gonna say to corporate?

Her complaint isn’t with you guys. There’s no way for you to contact her if she makes a mobile order.

This is someone who knows what a short is. She is trying to game you guys and doesn’t understand the game.

Edit: this is like, literally Starbucks’ angle with that demographic. Lean in to it, give them that shot of dopamine, accommodate and then find an opportunity to educate. Positivity is contagious, and so is negativity.

i’ve had that happen to me a lot recently, bitches really think mocha means coffee.
tiara1020 [OP] 22 points 1y ago
Omg!!! Yes I’ve had that too it makes me go crazy

I feel like just on the app it needs to be listed as "Mocha (chocolate)" or something. Because this has been happening for literally years lmao and they've done nothing about it. Y'all just have to keep wasting product and remaking drinks bc people don't know what they're ordering.

I got to the point where I would just set those stickers aside to confirm what they wanted before making it tbh. There's always that one in ten that actually wants no mocha because of some star bonus where they order the specific thing even when it's not actually what they want.
Actual_Mortician -9 points 1y ago
Call me a bitch, but it actually does mean coffee. Look it up. Just because the Siren decides to call chocolate syrup “mocha” doesn’t change the rest of the worlds definition.
voxinx 16 points 1y ago
i mean mocha on google pops up as a mocha latte, a chocolate flavored latte first. plus a lot of places use mocha as a placeholder meaning chocolate. so. idk bro.
mollythewiz 8 points 1y ago
no but when you order at a store where mocha means chocolate you’re going to get chocolate
vineanddandy 2 points 1y ago
Yeah I was just schooled on this by my coffee obsessed barista babe. You are absolutely right even though it seems most SB obsessed patrons would have caught on.

I told this lady her hot chocolate was gonna be a minute, we had to make more mocha. She's like mocha...but my drink is a hot chocolate. I tried not to slam my head on the counter.
ilovejimin 12 points 1y ago
i would have just waited to clarify with her when she got there! or made it but still asked before handing it to her. no reason for her to get so angry though!! people need to realize it’s not baristas faults for what THEY order
YellowSphinx 6 points 1y ago
How dare you make my drink to my specifications! The audacity! clearly it’s not what I meant. that’s insane.
cringeqween13 6 points 1y ago
Some people order drinks and mod the heck out of them for bonus stars so they can get a drink they want but also get extra stars.
kmoonster 6 points 1y ago
It is not uncommon for customers to associate 'mocha' with 'coffee/caffiene', but usually they either come to understand that after an explanation or learn a way to order what they actually want.

Once in a while for an 'off order' they don't normally get, that's one thing. If they do it on the regular, though, that's a signal she's high maintenance and that calls for however you handle high-maintenance customers.

You as a shift are 100% right. Your employees made the drink exactly how she ordered it. It’s 100% her fault that she doesn’t know that mocha is chocolate. I wouldn’t give a shit if she calls corporate because she is an idiot. AND you remade it for her, so what is she upset about exactly?

Don’t drink anything unless you know what’s in it!
tiara1020 [OP] 2 points 1y ago
Thank you and I really didn’t care that she is calling them cuz I was like wat are they going to tell her we have lack of communication and it’s my fault lol no
friendlySkeletor 3 points 1y ago
Some people just want an excuse to be mad.
defendpoppunk77 2 points 1y ago
I have had this happen on multiple occasions. People often think mocha is coffee and they’ll get button happy and take it out of their hot chocolate not realize that’s the chocolate and without it they just get the hot.
Necessary_Low939 1 points 1y ago
They wanna call corporate for every little thing. Just so they can get a free drink. Like relax yourself Karen. How you ordering a hot chocolate with no mocha. Dumb as hell

I would just make a steam milk, and if turns out she just wanted a regular hot chocolate, I would remake it, cause something people just might don’t know how to work with the app for any reason. But there is no reason for her to get mad whatsoever.
