Dress code allowed apron designs (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Bibikski
Hey all, my girlfriend works at Starbucks, and I found that I can order a spare apron for her. I was planning on putting embroidered designs on it and gifting it for Christmas. What are some dress code allowed designs I can put on the apron?

I’m like 99% sure that only our names go on the aprons. There’s exceptions for things like partners who did ASU, or were in the military, but other than that no cute designs are allowed. If her store is a little more relaxed her manager might not care but you might want to just stick with her name

But the DM might I’d stick to just the name and title

It’s going to end up covered in mocha sauce and cold brew anyway- I’d spend your money on something better that won’t be constantly subject to mystery goo.

No designs are allowed, unfortunately. The requirements are very particular and you can find them by searching on partner hub. The last time I checked, $1 was still accurate.

Can be one of three fonts:
•Avenir Heavy
•Corbel Bold
•Ariel Bold

Must be white. Must be a half inch from the right edge and top edge seams. First letter must be uppercase, height .46”, followed by lowercase letters. If you do anything other than this, she won’t be able to wear it at work.

Honestly, you’re better off customizing name tags. Technically that’s still against dress code, but most people are way more lenient about it.

are customized name tags against dress code?? i did so much research into it before i customized mine... everything i found said that starbucks actually encourages it so long as the name is clearly visible. i thought i was in the clear lol

This one I think is more dependent on your SM/GM. The old rule was that it could be only your name with white chalk pen, but I think it was changed. I'm pretty sure official company policy is just that your name has to be legible and it has to be appropriate. It may also be dependent on district/region.

thank you for the response! that makes sense. my name is still white but i painted a little space bg behind it. i think it gives my nametag some character lol. my SM and DM havent said anything to me and i know the former has seen it at least. i would hope that as long it doesnt have any copyright images or outside brands and the name is perfectly legible from a reasonable distance it should be ok

I think *most* managers would be totally fine with it! If they haven’t said anything I’m sure it’s fine. It’s such a small thing that I think it’s very low on the priority list of management anyway. They have so many more important things to worry about!

Yeah unfortunately I have to say don't do this. Starbucks, while allowing a lot of individuality and freedom, is very very corporate about its aprons. If you're set on sewing, why not turn a spare apron into a small workbag for her to bring pens / water bottles / etc to work with her?

Awesome idea! Yeah that’s why I posed the question, it just seems like a fuzzy area

Honestly depends on her store manager. Maybe call the store to ask for the SM and run it by them. It could be a waste of money for you if your gf can’t wear it.
