ma’am I see hundreds of customers a day you really expect me to remember your order out of all people 😐

I find it annoying when a “regular” comes in and yells that a different barista knows their order. It’s like, that’s great and all but they’re not taking your order. I am so if you could just tell me what you wanted that would be great.

literally happened to me today. I work one day a week at a busy ass store I couldn’t tell you a single regular’s order 🤨

I'm a semi regular customer and i never said "i'll have the regular" 2 reason i don't have a regular drink and the other i ain't a dick

If you’re actually a regular (and you don’t suck), every single barista will be *excited* to see you, and most likely make your order as soon as they see you walk in

Exactly what my above response said but summarized. You’re absolutely right ! :)

LITERALLY one lady comes in towards the end of my shift and she always says “I want my usual” and DRIVES OFF but I don’t know it and my partners are usually too busy to help me. And when she gets there to the window she gets upset bc I don’t have it punched it and goes “WELL SO AND SO KNOWS ME!” Like congratulations grandma I don’t know you so just tell me wtf you want
SelocAvrap12 points1y ago
I always responded with "I've never seen you before"
I seriously don't know how I never got fired for my honesty with customers

I would say: “…. and that is??”

I understand the connection side of things and respect that. But I have a very bad memory and struggle with faces so useless at it. Unless someone comes in literally everyday? I will no doubt forgot your name or order. I respect people who remember all that stuff. I can barely remember where I put things down half the time.

“Oh, if you’re a regular then you remember my name right? If you don’t remember my name then we’ve never met. How would I know your drink?”
Own_Distribution_9406 points1y ago
We do have this really nice gentleman. He does come in every single morning and orders the same exact drink. And he never says oh my usual. He was so kind to me when I first started and luckily the baristas knew him by name and drink and have good rapport with him. He is such a good example of someone who is a regular and gets the usual but without being a dick about it. Kindness consistency helps us baristas remember your order
tacticalcop5 points1y ago
like if we know your order already, i’m gonna say “you want the usual?”

We have an older man that comes through and says "I'll have the Jackson!" And laughs. But he's super sweet and doesn't get annoyed if someone doesn't know it. He just enjoys making the joke. He's one of my favorite people to see in the morning 😊
here_forthefun3 points1y ago
“And what is your usual?” “You must be new” nope just just don’t care nor interact with you enough to care about your drink
friendlySkeletor2 points1y ago
There's exactly one regular whose order everyone actually knows and its because its simple as fuck (grande pike w 5 raw sugar and steamed cream) and he has a distinct voice. Even other regulars itll take about halfway into the order to be like "oh hey [name]".
Customers expect a like small coffee shop experience and usually the people above us seem to expect us to produce that effect but its genuinely not worth trying bc its impossible.

I recently had a couple morning regulars do this to me....I work mornings *one day a week.* I’m an evening barista, and I’m not necessarily on a customer-facing position every morning that I work, so pls have mercy on me, people 😭

I’m so bad at remembering orders. Over the years they all just kinda flow together into a nice little storm of ingredients, some of which are long gone.
