weaponizing stares (self.starbucksbaristas)

All too often i’ll catch people just staring at me as i do my job. At this point i just stare back as blankly as possible until that person is uncomfortable. And if anyone asks why i’m staring i just reply “oh you were staring at me i was trying to figure out if you needed anything”.

As much as I love bar, this is my least favorite part about it. The way 30 people all just stare at you standing there like 🧍‍♀️🧍‍♀️🧍‍♀️🧍‍♀️🧍‍♀️

And I’m just over there like 👁👄👁

lmao i do this too, it's a very good way off getting people to walk away, especially the people who order and then just stand right next to the handoff counter, staring you down as you make a drink that's not their's.

To be honest I used to actively ignore customers that were staring at me just to stare and didn’t actually need something or weren’t expecting their drink right away.

However, if someone reached one of their hands over my bar to touch or grab anything, I immediately said something like “oh sorry do you need something? A barista can grab it for you”

And that's why I slide the containers for stoppers out to the handoff counter. I don't always have time to stop making drinks and hand off stoppers.

Time is everything for me right now.

Yup. One time a middle-aged lady reached her hand over my bar, *grabbed my vanilla syrup*, and lifted it over the counter because she wanted to “check the calories”

I was furious, not only because ew don’t touch my bar, but also I spent a precious 30 seconds wondering where my vanilla went

I would have slapped her hand and scolded her or sprayed her with water like a cat and said no! Bad kitty. Lol

Damn I wish I had this confidence 😅

Plus I'm to worried that slowing down to do this once would leave me soooooo behind

I was looking forward to our cafe opening, thinking they would sit down and chill but they are not. I think it's because our furniture is uncomfortable. No arm chairs, just those hard chairs with half a back

I can't even make eye contact while taking an order, this is such a powerful energy

If you have a question or need a correction to your drink, stand by the counter and I will help you! If you are waiting for drink or food stand/sit tf away from my bar and just listen for your name
