I’m not from California, but after googling it, I believe you will be paid not for your first day, but for your second and every day thereafter $15/hour by the state of California. I also believe it says they will help pay a small mileage fee based on the distance between your home and the courthouse. Your store may have its own procedures though, so it would probably be best to focus on what the manager says.
