I’m struggling friends. Granted it’s only been 2 days of hot bar training. And my trainer is wonderful. But my toxic trait is getting upset when I’m not perfect at something right away haha. Anyway. Are there any tips or tricks to keep straight how many pumps and how many shots for different sizes and hot and cold. Because that’s my main holdup. I was thinking maybe writing out a cheat sheet and keeping in in my pocket or something? Bring on the ideas!

Standard shots: 1/2/2 (3 iced)
Americanos: +1 shot, venti gets 4 shots
Flat whites: ristretto shots +1 & whole milk
Iced shaken espressos: +1 shot
Standard pumps are: 2/3/4/5 (6 iced)
Cappuccinos and Caramel Macchiatos get -1 pump
Frapps: 2/3/4 pump system, including syrups.
Christmas frapps get 1/2/2 syrup pumps
I’d recommend making flashcards similar to this or ask if the trainer has any on hand. Good luck!
Edit: U.S Starbucks only

Wow, so many differences between UK and the US recipes!

Any *UK* based baristas, Starbucks has now rolled out mobile training on an app called Attensi, not sure if every store is in it, I'm part of a franchise so it's likely it's the whole UK. I was part of the beta test and other partners in our store have started on it. It has flash cards etc and is basically gamified learning. If you haven't had a message about it yet, might be worthwhile checking with your management. Tbh I've noticed I'm a little better at some things like my latte art has improved a bit and some other basics that can sometimes slip a bit.

For real, I tried to say it was 2-2-3 shots for lattes and got down voted to hell haha

How dare you 😂

I rode the bus and would study flash cards on the way in, until it became second nature

Absolutely !! ❤️ good luck with the company and don’t give up on yourself, don’t beat yourself up! I’m sure one day you’ll look back at this post and be proud of how far you’ve come. 🥰

Hey, just so you know you’ll have it down pretty quickly if you are practicing on bar a lot! I went from not knowing the difference between a frappacino and a latte to knowing the recipes by heart after just one month!

i had a ssv who told me for syrups “remember grande is always 4. just add or subtract one if its venti or tall from four. if it’s iced, just add one more shot or pump”

Look at Quizlet!! There's all kinds of Starbucks related study sets there. When I started working at a store where we had to handwrite the cups that's how I learned all the drink abbreviations!

No sure if anyone has mentioned it yet, but I used quizlet! I started off at Tarbucks, where the training wasn’t very useful. We were severely understaffed and constantly busy. A lot of things I had to learn on my own. Using quizlet flash cards helped me memorize things better. There’s a lot of Starbucks quizlets made, but double check to make sure they’re up to date !

My trainer wrote a cheat sheet for me and I carry it in my pocket.
