manager scheduling me outside of availability (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by accountedthrowaway5
so my manager scheduled me outside of my availability (i don’t come in). recently i requested an availability change for mid January because of school. told him i need less hours. today he scheduled me for the next two weeks in days im not available. i found coverage for one of the days, and the person covering for me told me (in a group chat with everyone else who works in the store- including SSVs) that i need to tell my
Manager that my shift is going to be covered.

i thought it was okay if the SSVs new that my shift was going to be covered by another partner? also what do i do about him constantly scheduling me on days im unavailable? it’s been happening for the past 3 weeks now.

It is literally not your job to find coverage for time you informed them you aren't available. Remind them you aren't available those upcoming days and you won't be coming in, so they need to fix the schedule.

thank you! no one at my store was giving me a sound answer so it was getting frustrating, lol

It takes 21 days for scheduled availability to change after approved request

right im not saying that i want him to say yes to my request right now because i requested to change my availability for mid January. im saying that he’s scheduling me *right now* for days im completely unavailable due to school, or keeps over scheduling me (i asked to work 24-28 hours, im working 35hrs a week).

I gotchu, I read that wrong. I would speak to your SM as soon as possible and make it clear that your current availability hasn’t changed

do i still need to let him know that someone else has taken coverage of my shift even though all of the shift supervisors for that day already know?

Yup. You need to let your manager know still.

I literally texted our stand in SM while ours is doing recruitment “I have school *day she scheduled out of my availability* I have this day off for a reason, and I will not be there. I cannot find coverage bc I’m not even supposed to be scheduled this day. I will be in class from x to x.” And just left it like that. She immediately took me off that day, and found coverage. It wasn’t a problem from there. Stand firm, especially if it’s related to school. School comes first bc that’s your career while bux is just to get you through.

thank you so much! i hesitate to talk to him because i don’t really feel comfortable cause he likes to guilt trip me into going into work. will definitely try to stand my ground more
