At my store, being rude to a customer or having a bunch of customers complain about you is a fireable offence with no warning.
Well. I got my first bad review.
For context, I worked a double on Thanksgiving and was solo barring bc we are way too understaffed. So safe to say it was a little busy.
A customer in the lobby calls me over as I’m making drinks and I’m hoping he’s just gonna ask for a straw bc I’m working on 4 drinks at once.
Instead he goes:

“I need cream in my coffee”

Me: ok *grabs cream*

“No. You clearly don’t understand how this works. Are you gonna dump it or am I?”

Me: do you want me to remake it? I’ve got a lot of drinks going on but I can remake it

“Are you even fu**ing listening? Are you gonna dump it or am I?”

So I politely told him I’m gonna have to help him in a second bc I was way too slammed. He wrote a full complaint. My manager is on my case saying tHe cUsTomEr aLwaYs cOmEs first. Ok but when that customer is yelling at cursing at you while you’re understaffed trying your best. I shouldn’t have to walk on eggshells bc of his crappy attitude.

Dude, I actually don’t understand how some managers can be like this. I’m only an SSV, but if I heard a customer say something like this to one of the baristas on my shift? They’re getting their money back and getting the heck out of the store. I’ve had customers talk like that to my bar barista and if I hear it I let them direct it at me, because I’m going to politely direct it back at them and it’s my pleasure to have them realize how unbelievably dense they look in front of everyone else.

I’m sorry you had to go through that. No one should be spoken to like that.

It’s not even the part of him saying that that’s bothersome tbh. My store is in a pretty weird area so we have a lot of angry/distressed people stop by. I’m just upset that I now have a “reason” to be fired if my manager felt the need to. All because that dude wanted creamer (and didn’t even order it to begin with)

i think you did the best you can for sure. i’ve been having situations like this too where i try my best to make it up to the costumer but some people just don’t care, nothing you can do about it. i’m disappointed that your manager doesn’t understand that

All three complaints about me were from customers who were offended that I didn't know their usual drinks. One of them went so far as to lie and say I called her stupid to her face.

Customers who want to bitch will find any excuse to do so. Sounds like you handled the situation as professionally as possible given a ridiculous workload, so there's nothing else you can do better. The fact that the customer was swearing at you means the SM or SSV should have kicked him out imo. Stupid people are gonna stupid and Karens are gonna karen. Try not to let it get to you too much.
