I personally really like it. It’s fun to see them succeed and then you also typically get a good friend out of it. I’ve trained three people so far.
I would say that you do need to exercise a lot of patience. Everyone learns differently and some learn slower than others. Also be sure to ask them questions about how they think they’re doing and what they think they need more help with.
I always make a cheat sheet similar to
$1 so that they have something to carry around with the things I think are most important/can be confusing to new beans.
Some people hate being a trainer, but I think it’s a fun experience and has made me into a better barista and more patient overall. I also feel like it helps you create better connections with your coworkers.
