you will get fired if you get caught by the wrong person.

EDIT: i see all my fellow openers are awake and checking reddit

If you have to ask, you probably know the answer.
dfarner 51 points 1y ago
You wouldn’t be able to use your partner numbers if you are the one logged into the till
TrueFondue [OP] 10 points 1y ago
i found that out today lmao

It’s in the policy handbook. You can only use the discount and free drinks for yourself.
terriblescreenwriter 35 points 1y ago
Actually not true, you can use the discount for anyone as long as you are the one paying.
TrueFondue [OP] 8 points 1y ago
my one supervisor lets me go with it and will say “cause your technically paying for it” if it’s someone close to me
Heythere_Ambear 7 points 1y ago
I guess I just assumed OP stating “when I’m at the register” meant he was assigned to R1 trying to give his friends and family discounted beverages
marigshu 25 points 1y ago
I don’t think that a lot of ppl in these comments realize that it’s very easy to catch someone doing this. They can see how many discounts you’re giving out.

I wouldn’t do it. I admit I used to. Everyone at my store did. But after we got investigated by corporate and written up for giving out discounts and using the right now recovery button I just don’t do it anymore. Not worth losing my job over.
dexterwolf1 4 points 1y ago
They really don’t pay us enough for it to be that big of a deal though
Gameb0i6 1 points 1y ago
Maybe not you. It I get paid pretty well.
fawnaluna 17 points 1y ago
like most things, you’ll only get in trouble if you get caught. just keep in mind that it might change the name you enter in to your name once you put your numbers in.

I think it just matters who is working. I don't care, most of my shifts don't care, my manager really wouldn't care and I think most partners would just not care. I accidently gave a markout instead of discount to a partner that didn't even work at our store and another partner saw, shrugged, said "I do that all the time, don't worry about it" so we just gave them the drink full markout and all. Same partner will use their discount for their family if they come in, and no one bats an eye.
TrueFondue [OP] 3 points 1y ago
thank you, i know i like can i just shouldn’t push the rules haha

There’s a reason the register is programmed so you can’t use your own discount while you’re assigned to a till.
Twtb66 6 points 1y ago
If its your day off and your paying for their drinks then thats fine. The register wont let you use your numbers if your assigned to a till. You can always have your friends or family pay you back
mpho28 4 points 1y ago
TECHNICALLY you would get in trouble. At every store I’ve ever worked at, we all look the other way. We take care of each other and our families, my advice is to just not abuse it and try to minimize who you use it for.
b99__throwaway 3 points 1y ago
yes you could be fired of anyone but you pays while using your numbers. and you can’t pay for a transaction you ring up, so if you pay for a friend while they’re in store and a coworker rings them up you can use your discount but that’s pretty much it
YoshisShadow 3 points 1y ago
If you are buying, YOU can get discount on whatever you are paying for at the register.
Missamum 2 points 1y ago
What I do when o want to pay for my mom or whoever I’ll tell the person on register that I’m going to buy their coffee and then they save it with the persons name and then I pay for it on my break
Venom-99 1 points 1y ago
If you can slide over and make it yourself or get a barista in on it, you could charge them for a tall and make them a larger size, not charge them for extra shots, etc.
buncha13itches 1 points 1y ago
Honestly talk to your store about it. Depending on the vibe at the store the shifts and managers might be ok with it. Some aren’t you just go with the flow of your store
Isaac_Ingram 1 points 1y ago
You are not allowed to give anyone your mark outs. That’s an easy way to get fired. You are also not allowed to use your discount unless you’re the one paying (in which case you shouldn’t be ringing yourself up). Because of this, you can’t give yourself your mark out or your discount on your till.
MunchYourButt 1 points 1y ago
Technically no. But I still did it when I worked there (for customers too, either having a visibly bad day, accidentally short on money, or just as a nice surprise if they were pleasant) Just don’t let a customer in line see/overhear or over do it. If the wrong customers hears, they may demand one for themselves or complain to SM/DM
papayaushuaia 1 points 1y ago
Don’t. But if you decide to go against policy, the name on the drinks and food will be YOUR name. Try backpedaling then!!!
