Can you take a frappachino from a customer and put it back into the blender to make it taste right after they have already took few sips from it? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Local-Refuse2270
At my grocery store kiosk, a barista did this. It didn't sit right with me because of sanitary issues and the whole covid thing. I told her to not to do that. She said its alright, and the manager will agree with her.

Well manager did say it's alright. The manager claimed that she asked district manager and even the dm agreed with her.

Who am I to say shit. That barista has been working on and off with the grocery store for really long. She is always right and won't get in trouble.

Edit: I should note that while the manager agreed with the other barista, manager did recommend us to use sample cups next time.

I posted this because I had really heated conversation with the other barista and just couldn't believe that the manager took her side. This is fucking unhygienic.

Nooooo. Never ever put a drink that a customer has drank from anywhere other than the trash. Just toss the old one and make a new one if it "doesn't taste right."

I would email the DM directly because either your SM is lying about the DM okaying it, or the DM has literally no concept of how to keep things sanitary. If the DM still says it's okay, keep a copy of the email and call the health department. And then sanitize the shit out of everything next time you're there because who knows what other disgusting things your SM and coworker are doing.

The thing is if my manager figures out that it is me who emailed the dm, I might get fired. So I might not do that.
Malevolent_barnacle 26 points 1y ago
Fuck the DM, reach out to the health department.
amazing_redhead 12 points 1y ago
Agreed. Someone could get sick and worst case die from lazy negligence
spookbish69 3 points 1y ago
No you have a point, I used to work in a grocery store and ecolab would have a fit about this
plushiequeenaspen 19 points 1y ago
That would be retaliation, and that shouldn't be legal. (Idk how much it varies by state.) You're addressing a legitimate health concern, and whistleblower protection does extend to food workers who report health and safety concerns.

Do you have any texts from your manager about it? If you have anything in writing, you can probably go straight to the health department and skip the DM.
Local-Refuse2270 [OP] 8 points 1y ago
I don't have it in writing. They are all just conversations.

I should note that while the manager agreed with the other barista, manager did recommend us to use sample cups next time.
EDIT* They meant instead of giving the whole frappachino, take a lil from the blender and put it in a sample cup so the customer can taste it. Leave REST of it in the blender and modify as customer prefers. AND DO NOT TAKE SAMPLE BACK FROM THE CUSTOMER lol. This is how at least I will do it.

Sample cups make no difference if the drink has already been in someone’s mouth. It’s not an issue of the cup, the contents have touched the straw that has been in contact with their spit, and then put back in a blender that is used to make many other customers beverages. That’s disgusting and VERY much against health code.

Here's the real test: would you drink a Frappuccino that came out of the same blender used?

We're already in a pandemic, why are we going to tempt the devil further
Local-Refuse2270 [OP] 15 points 1y ago
>Here's the real test: would you drink a Frappuccino that came out of the same blender used?

NO. And this was my logic too.
evilash85 22 points 1y ago
Never. We aren’t even allowed to take drinks back once the customer has touched them let alone drank from them. It’s always an automatic remake . The customer should throw away the mistake drink.
Local-Refuse2270 [OP] 3 points 1y ago
That's what I thought. It should be common sense after we have been in this yearlong pandemic.

But like I said, manager agreed with the other barista. Even quoted DM. So I have no say in this unless I can find something official from Starbucks website. I am gonna look into that.

Ew bro
Saradigm 5 points 1y ago
God no fuck no fuck do not do that no call the health department
FfierceLaw 4 points 1y ago
Omg, if you did that at my corporate store the shift managers would send you home
ArielPotter 3 points 1y ago
Dirty cup in the blender? Straight to jail. Clean cup that someone hands back to you? Believe it or not, also straight to jail.
caligirlthrowaway104 4 points 1y ago
Fuck no. Period. I’d call the health department. Doubt the manager will give them the same answer about putting used items back in the blender. I can only imagine how long they’ve been doing that, even worse they seem comfortable with doing it. 🙃
_abbycadabby_ 4 points 1y ago
What. The fuck. NO.
Jessi4394 3 points 1y ago
If this is a tarbucks, I would take it to the store director, the Starbucks licensed DM AND the Food and Beverage DM. Your ETL as well if they aren’t the incompetent supervisor who OK’d that mess.
mayor-em 3 points 1y ago
Got in a fight for exactly this, ‘but the other starbucks does it’ then go harass them
Local-Refuse2270 [OP] 2 points 1y ago
Lmao we are the other starbucks. Now you know.
Necessary_Low939 3 points 1y ago
Definitely not lol wtf
lilBalzac 3 points 1y ago
Nothing is supposed to even cross back over the counter once handed off, let alone be handled and poured into any blender or serving equipment. This was a shocking no-no before Covid-19 even existed. No. No!
lilBalzac 3 points 1y ago
No way, no how, no never is that ever okay. That is foul.
Own_Distribution_940 2 points 1y ago
NOOOOO!!! God no!!! Imagine if you were a customer and you found out that a customer had their drink remade using the same drink in the same blender your drink will come from! My god can’t your authority use common sense?? At least you see the problem with it lol.
Local-Refuse2270 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
Common sense ain't that common mate
angeliic 2 points 1y ago
this is disgusting and i wouldn't drink anything that had been made at a store that would do this lmao
TemplarSensei7 2 points 1y ago
In this day and age? Nah.
ArielPotter 2 points 1y ago
I’ve been out of the barista game for 12 years and this would have been a hell no even then. And I was a TARGET STARBUCKS barista. Absolutely not.
krty98 1 points 1y ago
Where is this store so I can never come? That’s disgusting and against every health code there is.
nioyakult 1 points 1y ago
that’s gross
