Last Sunday, I was a Starbucks SSV for the last time. Closed at 10, still serving customers at 10:05. Finally got home at 11. Monday morning, I put on my ~business casual~ digs and clocked in at an office job I'd interviewed for a week prior. I gave it a week before I passed judgement, as I'm known for jumping to conclusions 🤪 but the verdict's in - this 9 to 5 shit *rules* I left Starbucks for a multitude of reasons - a rough transfer,,, bitchy coworkers,,, THE MOST ENTITLED CUSTOMER BASE KNOWN TO MAN,, and each of my shifts leading up to my departure solidified my will to leave. And now I'm gone like a freight train and I feel like a whole new human being. I'm making $22 an hour with GUARANTEED 40 hours per week. I go on breaks at will. I don't interact with customers. I have enegry to read to cook to socialize after work again. Dude. I knowwww it seems scary to branch out and apply for things you're not sure you're qualified for. Take the leap and I swear it will be worth it.

Girl same. I switched to 9-5 life and within a year promoted to AM of my department and it may be the best thing I’ve ever done. Getting ready to get my own place here soon because I can finally afford to live roommate free 😭👏🏼

Can I ask, what industry?
tiramisutrash [OP]4 points1y ago
I'm working in the finance department of a national contractor 🤷🏼♀️ seems random, I know

I ended up in the scheduling department of a solar company

Bruh I’m trying, that’s all I want. 😩 It is hard finding one with all of these entry level office jobs expecting BAs or 3-5 years of office setting experience where I live tbh. Hopefully I get something soon, but congrats! 🥲🖤
clumsycalico7 points1y ago
I have two BAs and some experience and I make more as an ssv than anything else I could find after 6 months of looking 🥴🥴
nezaket1 points1y ago
what field are your degrees in?
clumsycalico1 points1y ago
Sociology and political science. But I’m feeling too disillusioned with society and politics after getting those degrees and trying out grad school, so I don’t want much to do with it right now anyway. I’m lucky to have a really great store full of people I love so when I found out it made almost $2/hour more plus tips than the best offers I was getting I had to stay a while longer. Everything I could get interviews for as an entry level applicant was starting at about $15 with terrible benefits and ssv’s in my district get $16.80 plus tips which add at least $1/hour more for us.

THIS!

You do you my friend and I'm happy you're happy but an office job sounds like torture to me xD

Same, I worked at a large financial services company for almost a year and I hated it so much. My body and brain were not built to sit in silence surrounded by other people (short cubicles) while I either pretend to be busy or talk to people on the phone.

they can be if you land in the wrong department or with the wrong company.

I recently had few interviews and hopefully soon i can say good by to the siren. Seriously we are just a number and nothing more.

Where and are they hiring? 🤣

Here's my entitled customer story of the day. I tried to close my licensed store early since my coworker didn't come in. I told a customer I wouldn't be able to take her order and she said I'd get my karma. She must have complained to a random employee and I got a visit from the store director telling me I couldn't close until thirty minutes before normal closing time. I got off work at midnight.
tiramisutrash [OP]3 points1y ago
Stopppppp. 30 mins early?? And she evoked "karma"???
philosopher_cat_lady2 points1y ago
No, I was wanting three hours early, lol.

Not an office job, but I just got a job as a swim coach making $22 an hour and I ditched the coffee cult SO QUICK

This is me! It’s not a 9-5 but a 10-7 at the hospital and damn sbux wasn’t worth all the stress. Everyone is so much nicer at my new job, the pay is much better and the benefits! Plus they don’t make us find our own coverage if we need to call out and never call us on our days off and encourage taking time for ourselves. I could never work for sbux again. Plus I’m looking at a two dollar pay increase after only 6 months.
tiramisutrash [OP]2 points1y ago
I love reading all these former Starbaby success stories 🥺
JHOOOOBI1 points1y ago
Me too! It’s so nice to see people move onto bigger and better things!
jennyparks072 points1y ago
Take the risk and apply, prerequisites be damned!!! Sometimes they appreciate a can do attitude, a willingness to learn and the people skills that comes from working at Starbucks. Use your charm and you can get there! I left as an SM for a lower paying office job and now I just got a new job making even more because of the experience I got. Just put yourselves out there!! You all can do it!!!!! ♥️
jaygoonzalez2 points1y ago
I can agree! I have been blessed with a 7-4 and can say that shit is amazing will never go back !

Same here

I work at Starbucks part time, and the SSV position pays more than my full time job 😭
lunarena111 points1y ago
Been applying non stop for 6 months... all I hear are crickets
