There are two reasons tips are done weekly (with the exception of some holidays) and in units of dollars per hour worked (so if tips are $1.50/hr a partner who worked 20 hours gets $30 and a partner who worked 30 hours gets $45).
1) It would be way too complicated and too much work to split tips daily. Hours punched are generally due for managers to edit and finalize on Monday (like if the internet is down and you can’t clock in so your punch has to be put in manually) so doing tip distributions daily would not accurately reflect hours worked.
2) The work done during low tip volume hours is what makes high tip volume hours possible. Just because closing hours and certain weekdays may be slower and contribute less tips to the overall tip pool, doesn’t mean that the work done in that time isn’t integral to keeping the store running. The partners who scrub the floor drains at 5 AM and clean the bathrooms at 9 PM deserve the tips just as much as drive bar during peak.

It's already been explained, but just to reiterate: tips are divvied out based on the number of hours someone works! You take the total amount of tips earned, and the total amount of hours that were scheduled/worked, and then split the money that way. If you work 0 hours during that tip week, you get no tips, and similarly if you work the most hours, you get the most in tips.
There's a sheet that gets printed out detailing everyones' hours, so all the SSV/person doing tips needs to do is figure out how much from the pool each person has earned. AFAIK in order to receive personal tips, they need to be in an envelope with your name on it.
