Go to your family reunion. Let Starbucks know you won’t be there. Starbucks will most likely be around forever, family won’t!

Pretty high I assume? I'm not sure how your sbux works but mine only schedules those who want to work during the holidays voluntarily. We have a signup sheet and all! Please put the request in if your store is different though, you don't ever need to justify not working :)

It was denied, and I’m going to miss out on the first reunion with my family since before covid. Apparently all full time is required to be available for those “big sales days.” I’m pretty upset to be honest and looking for neutral feedback on whether I’m being entitled or not because I am not well super experienced with the service industry.

So I honestly don’t get denied time off. To me that’s me letting you know I won’t be there. If I ask for it. You can either pay me in sick time or give me the day off. I’m good with either one.

Let me be the first to say that it really sucks that you're about to come down with a cold on whatever day it was that you need off. A "request" off in a timely manner is merely a way of letting your job know that you will not be coming in that day. It's their job to make that work or suffer the consequences when you follow through on what you said you were going to do

It’s not me. It’s my partner and they aren’t willing to “lose their job and possibly not have a good reference”. 🥲 Even after showing this thread I’m missing out on Christmas with my whole family.

If they aren't staffed enough to accept the request, they aren't staffed enough to fire them. Also, you list individuals as references. Companies can only contact companies that you worked at to confirm that you in fact worked there. I'm sure there's a supervisor that they can list as a reference who will give a positive reference. Also, most companies don't bother checking references.

You’re right. Thank you for the insight but I guess it’s something deeper than the company policy.
