I applied for the barista and shift supervisor position at Starbucks for one location. I went in to interview for both positions two different days (Nov 24th and Nov 29th) and the manager said I got the shift supervisor position. However, I have yet to begin training like I was supposed to last week, and no progress in the hiring process has been made on their end. I keep reaching out and they keep saying that the system is still down. I got an email last night from Starbucks Talent Acquisition for the barista position at that location saying “After careful consideration by our hiring team, you have not been selected to move forward in the interview process…”. Should I be worried? I contacted the manager yesterday afternoon and haven’t heard anything back.

Friday, she was supposed to call me because I’ve reached out to her multiple times about my background check. She keeps saying there’s issues with the system. I haven’t heard anything since, she keeps changing things which is annoying because she said last Monday she’d make sure I had it before the end of the day

maybe go to a diff store n ask their manager then

I could be wrong but it sounds like you didn't get the position. No system is down. For hiring. We've hired three people recently. I hope I'm wrong.

I’m not sure what they’re doing then and why if I didn’t get the position then why won’t they tell me. I keep getting the run around, and that she would call me but never has. So I’m not sure what to do, I’ve never experienced management so unprofessional

Sounds like a staffing problem. I honestly don't know. Give them deadlines. Go in and ask to speak with the manager. And then start looking elsewhere. That way you're prepared to move on if you need to.

Do the managers usually take this long for the hiring process? The only reason I wanted to stick this through was because I got the SSV position. I have an interview for another location this weekend on Microsoft teams. However, it says for the barista position. I applied for SSV, would I have to call and ask prior to the interview if they’re conducting the SSV interview as well?
mexicanitch3 points1y ago
No. Go Microsoft and thank me later.

It sounds like they don't have their act together at the store you interviewed at. There are often issues with the hiring/background check software and it seems like they aren't even bothering to follow up with the help desk to see why it isn't working or reaching out to you about it. I had a background check for someone take about two weeks once because the small town in new hampshire he was from just would not get back to the background check company for whatever reason, but if you didn't get an email, the background check process probably was never started. Congratulations!! It sounds like you've inadvertently avoided a shit show!

Yeah I’m not sure what’s going on. The miscommunication and unprofessionalism is stressing me out. So I’m not sure what to do

I would apply somewhere. The disorganization is already a red flag.
Limp-Fish9833 [OP]1 points1y ago
Are they usually this slow in the hiring process? Or is this just different?
Jaxammx1 points1y ago
The third party hiring process is newly implemented and it does take a while. However, if you haven’t even gotten a background check I’d be concerned
Limp-Fish9833 [OP]3 points1y ago
Yeah I still haven’t received an email like I was supposed even though she claimed I would receive it after the interview. That didn’t happen and so I texted her last weekend and she said she’d check in the system. Then last Monday came around and she assured me I’d have it by that day then receive a call. And I have yet to. She even said Friday I would but then I didn’t. Just super unprofessional overall. So idk how to contact about this inconvenience

It seems like you didn’t pass the background check. It’s the only reason that would make sense.
Limp-Fish9833 [OP]2 points1y ago
What does one need to pass a background check? Because I don’t have a criminal history and I didn’t even get an email like I was supposed to in order to complete a background check
evilash851 points1y ago
They do it internally. Through whatever information you gave them when you applied. I’m not actually sure if the specifics on what they look for though. I’m sorry . It just seems weird that your where hired by the manager then got declined by the system.
Limp-Fish9833 [OP]2 points1y ago
So, about 15 minutes ago I got an email saying that I received an offer of employment contingent on the successful completion of the background check

Nice!!! That’s great! I wonder what the holdup was? I’m so happy it finally went thur. Look luck on your Starbucks journey:) congrats
