I’ve taken a couple of shifts in a cafe store in my district and a few things I noticed was that it’s a little hard to communicate, especially since I was so used to using headsets at a drive thru store, it’s also not as busy as a drive thru (or at least my drive thru) so time doesn’t go as fast for me, but one of the things I really liked is that it felt way more like the 3rd place aspect Starbucks tried to push, like you’re able to hear costumers better and you can really connect with people when you don’t hear a constant dinging in a headset. But there are sometimes when someone came in and be in a hurry and they stand out like a sore thumb with the other customers. It’s a little irritating but nothing to really stress over. All in all if the coworkers are really nice and fun to work with them I can imagine it being a very nice place to work!

I transferred from a drive thru to a cafe store a few months ago, and I also think communication is way harder than at a drive through without the headsets. My cafe store is busier than my drive thru store was, but a lot of times it doesn't necessarily feel like it because you aren't hearing every order placed and you aren't scrambling for good window times. Drinks in the cafe store are less modified and we get way less fraps than the drive thru, but that could just be a location thing. I've also found we get less in tips at the drive thru store, but that could also be a location thing.

I “trained” at a cafe store before starting at my drive through store and while definitely still a green bean I’d go back to the cafe store in a heart beat if they were hiring.

Even though I am coming to not hate the hustle of the drive through
