iced green tea latte? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by moldyhotpocket
Hi! So i’m still a green bean and i’m finally being put on bar more often but i can’t figure out a good way to make iced green tea lattes. My shift told me to do standard which is in a shaker but once i finished the drink and dumped out the excess, I realized chunks were still there…

My coworkers told me to make it in a blender, which makes sense but I didn’t think about this until now. Does it matter which blender I use and which setting do I even put?

what i like doing is using the shaker and pouring the milk in first then the ice and then the powder and then shaking very very well!! it makes it nice and velvety

Oh wow I feel dumb for not thinking of putting the powder in last! Thank you :)

This is exactly how I do it!

i just put the milk and matcha in and shake and add ice later, it mixes better that way bc the ice makes it too cold to properly mix and you’ll get matcha all on the bottom of the cup (once it settles)

Don’t make it in the blender, it isn’t standard. Shake it VIGOROUSLY, like more than 10 times, and hard, and I promise it will all mix in. You have to shake it really hard and fast.

tbh I always assumed that any remaining clumps (after a vigorous shake and reckless pour) are intended to be part of the beverage as served

my bigger concern is getting the last of the powder off the inside of the shaker, some of that stuff WILL NOT rinse off.

it doesn’t matter if you use a blender but only do it if it’s not busy and setting 3!!

Thank you! I was too afraid to mess with the other buttons haha

What has always worked for me is putting the syrup in first if any, then the milk, then ice, and lastly the powder right on top of the ice. shake well & i never have any chunks of matcha personally when i do it this way

Nah, do it it in the cold foam pitcher only if it’s alternative milk. Blend on 3. Takes no time at all and it looks so nice after.
Only shake vigorously if you have to use regular milk. Put matcha in last. I like to strain the foam with the shaker lid to get all the good stuff out and then put the foam and ice on top.

Making in the blender isn’t standard, it’s better safer than sorry to do do it in the shake, milk first and then green power then ice is what I do to mix better but some alternative milks are harder to mix

I know someone who would add about half an ounce of hot water before adding the ice or milk in. The matcha powder would melt perfectly.

Here's the thing. I know it tastes better in the blender but so help me god if customers start asking me to do this I will be so freaking annoyed. It gets powder in my blender that doesnt come out on the rinser alone. PLEASE do not tell customers about this.

Edit: *this response not necessarily to OP but to all the baristas saying to just make the drink this way by default*

no ones telling customers anything? just asking a question. sorry.

i measure everything accordingly and then put it in the cold foam pitcher and blend on the cold foam setting. it’s creamy & it tastes nice!

Don’t use the blender, it can get your written up if you do it that way. I’d just stake it more, maybe 15 times instead of 10.
