Working Drive through can be fun sometimes (self.starbucksbaristas)

Ive already met some hard customers within my 4 days of working at my Starbucks.
Ive been put on the drive through headset. When greeting i go " How are you this supercalifragilisticexpialidocious day at Starbucks? What can i get for you!"
" hello are you having a crispy creamy cold day? You're about to! What would you Like today?"
" hello on this hideously heinous cold day! I don't like the cold but I like taking your order! What can I get for you?"
" Welcome to Starbucks! Is Jack frost nipping your nose cause hes nipping mine! What would you like today?"
I mostly get laughter. Shocked or joyed. Some roll their eyes. I had a guy tip me 15$ for the pure spirit of it and his girlfriend was giggling the whole time. Anyone else do this or have more sayings?
I know some customers are of course bitter but i love the genuine joy that light up on some peoples face.

YES! I used to do the same thing and it made drive thru 10x better. Mine are,
*Bippity boppity boo, do you want one shot or two*
*Welcome to starbucks I hope you’re having a BEAUTIFULLLLLLLLLLLL daywhatcanigetstartedforya*
My favorite is seeing their puppies or accessories and complimenting them! (Unrelated, I like customers to know I can see them ignoring me or ordering from the passenger side)

Can I borrow the bippity boppity boo one shot or two please? Sounds do much fun! Do you say it when they ask for a shot? How do you work that in?

I meant to say do you *need* that way it’s a starter. I tried to think of a way to use it in mid conversation but it doesn’t really work lol!

I like the supercalifragilisticexpialidocious because it always takes people out and if they do know Mary Poppins they light up. Disney tends to be good inpso. I can go " Welcome to Starbucks! With great power comes great responsibility, what powers are you choosing today?" Hmmmm that might not work

I have a camera in my old drive. I once asked the lady if she wanted a water for the person in back. There’s was a plant in her backseat hanging out the window and she was so confused for a second 😂😂 def worked in the end though

There's a video somewhere that has someone at another fast food chain using "Yabba dabba doo, what can I get for you?" (Or was it "what combo"?)

I'm rarely put on drive because I have a very tough time juggling both DTO and DTR, and also because when I'm at that position, I'm completely unable to multi-task.
WITH THAT SAID.
When it's slow enough (and enough closing tasks are finished) that I CAN handle drive? I tend to goof off on the mic.
I have a well-honed customer service voice and apparently sound similar to automated messages, so I play with it. "Good evening and welcome to Starbucks! My name is Sammiche and I'm definitely not a robot. What can I get started for you?"
For a while, I used to greet everyone with the good evening and welcome, and then "my name is Sammiche and my favorite dinosaur is a velociraptor! What's yours?"
If customers say they need a moment, I always answer "sure thing! Let me know if you have any questions or if you'd like to hear my coffee song!"
The coffee song is just a silly thing to the tune of "do you wanna build a snowman" I've shared a few times on this sub haha. Customers enjoy it but my coworkers scream in agony every time.
Anyway, keep on keeping on with the fun times on the mic! You're making the customer connections! 👍
EDIT: closer to Christmas, I introduce myself as "Frosty the Snow-Sam".

I'm looking for that coffee song now! Thats so cool!
So my store is the busiest in my area completely. Its what its known for since we are near colleges and other stuff. So we always have 2 people working drive and every position filled. So I can focus on orders and focus on lining up the drinks so my coworker can hand and get payment. I'm always busy and so are they.

When I used to work drive thru, I would pick an accent and try to use it the whole time the customer was at the box/window

I think life is hard enough as it is so I try to put some cheer. If that makes people go ew I think that says more about the person than me. I met some hard customers but like I try to be nice

Totally agree. If you can't smile at someone who is actively trying to make everyone's day better, then goddamn must your poor, sad life just SUCK.
