It’s tough to unionize in “right-to-work” states because your employer can basically nullify any contract on a whim, but I am pleased with Buffalo!

If you are interested in attempting to unionise, the first thing you need to do is educate yourself. Do as much research as you can into unions, what they do, what they have done, what they can do, as well as what you think they can do to benefit your store.

Once you have all of that information, you would want to start broaching the subject with your coworkers. Don't push them, don't try to persuade/convince anybody, you just want to gauge the environment. This is the difficult part, because Starbucks is extremely anti-union and people will talk. If your SM catches wind of it, and is against it or tells the DM, there is a high chance that you will either be terminated or you will see your hours cut. Yes, it is illegal, and yes, starbucks gets away with it regularly.

Once you know if your store is generally more for or against, you can then see about getting it started. Speak with a union representative from the union you want to represent your store. They can guide you through the rest.
