New partner hours frustration. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by crazycocopuf
So I have been told countless times that my hours will be built up but I’m still getting 23 hour weeks. I know it’s not because of lack of skill because I picked up hot bar fast and I pretty much only work main or drive bar. I’m getting depressed because of how poor I am, and how much time I have to myself. When I interviewed, I made it clear I wanted full time. At this point I’m not sure if I should keep nagging or just cut my losses. I don’t want to coordinate two job schedules or cover shifts for more hours. I want 40 hours scheduled. Is this even a thing at Starbucks?

As a barista 40 hours is highly unlikely. As a shift lead you’d probably get 30-40ish.

Thank you.

That’s so frustrating. It should be illegal for employers to lie about something like that. Nobody has been straight with me at all about my hours.

Honestly yeah, same thing happened to me when I transferred stores. Had my hours cut by a third. Best of luck

It seriously depends on the store. I'm so sorry, it sounds like your manager knew you wanted about 40 hours a week and just lied and said they would give you something close. My SM told me about 35 hours a week and as a regular barista that is what I would be scheduled every week plus overtime sometimes just for staying over or training someone.

it depends on the store. a lot of my partners get 30-37 a week as baristas, and you can always make up the difference by borrowing to different stores

This. also have you asked if you can pick up shifts at another store?

I'm a SSV and i work 35 hours a week. 38 max. To get to 40 or overtime i have to pick up shifts.

I was getting 35-40 hours (I’m a barista) til they hired a ton of new people and now I’m at 16-20

It depends on your location. We give out thirty-seven to thirty-nine hours to lots of people, but we also regularly run three-person plays and two-person closes. 🙃 I adore my store but most people really cannot handle that level of anarchy. If you have a well-run store, the SM probably doesn’t need to drop so many hours on one partner.

Yeah, unfortunately 25 hours is typically considered "full time" at Starbucks. I've never (even at my peak availability and begging for hours) been scheduled for more than 32. Usually only SSVs get 30+
