Can you serve customers in the drive thru if they get out of the car and stand at the window? (self.starbucksbaristas)

I’ve been at shift leader at 3 different stores but I recently transferred to a new district. My first 2 sm have both said never to serve a customer if they walk up to the window but I don’t know the official policy on this. Last night we had a customer come through in their suv but when they got to the window they pulled really far away(at least 10 ft) on purpose then got out and walked up to the window. Granted our store has a weird drive thru and the semi dropping our truck off was in the parking lot by the drive thru exit but no other cars had issues getting out. My barista on DTR was under the same assumption as me and explained that we couldn’t serve him if he was out of his car due to safety reasons and he was more than welcome to come inside to finish the transaction. The customer was not happy about this and just left. But they called our sm (not quite sure how) who called the store extremely upset and informed me that no such policy existed. I just wonder how both of my prior sm have enforced this if there is no such policy. If anybody knows the official standing on this or where exactly I can find it on the partner hub that would be great!

One such policy exists and you used it.

Take it higher and get the correct answer.
