Since everyone is hung up on the phone number sharing.. let me take a guess.
There are 2 phones (devices). One is data only, so only works with wifi (maybe it has network internet with a certain sim card, maybe wifi only). The other is a phone with call/text/data. The shared phone number is just that both of you use it as if it were your own. Whoever holds the full service phone forwards msgs to the other (but because it's an iphone with iMessage, you automatically get all the messages anyway). Is that right?

Close! His phone doesn’t have a plan (and works on wifi), yes! Mine is the one that has a plan and data and whatnot - he uses my number for things that need phone numbers for contact (such as work) and I just let him know whenever he gets a text or call lmao. It’s not super complicated or anything
