time off for the holidays? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by TrueFondue
i requested off for the week before Christmas (i did as early as i could, two months before because i had just made plans to travel), but my manager couldn’t approve my request because that’s a busy time for the year 😐

i like working there so i don’t wanna leave. but if it was any other job i probably would.

at other locations are you guys allowed to request off around that time?

Tell SM you will be out of town no other option. Holiday still optional not mandatory.

i did have an in person talk with them about it after they had texted me saying it wouldn’t be approved. it still didn’t look like their decision was gonna be changed, but did say sorry and that i could get the week after off if i wanted to..

My district is flexible only open certain stores and let other baristas from other store come over to work holiday hour.

at my store we are. i always take off the 22nd for my birthday and the day after. but i put it in atleast 6 months out. most stores ive worked at let u but it depends on how many already requested off those days. im a shift and they wont let more then 2 or 3 of us to request the same day off. i had a barista come to me once complaining about her not getting the time off she requested and i had to remind her its a request not a given. my best guess is people beat you to those days and thats the reason your SM wont let u have those days off.

aw yeah i requested like 7 days off, i already cancelled my travel plans cause of it but wanted to see if that was actually a policy that they do, makes more sense i thought since i was pretty early it would be okay 😢

its always hit and miss when i worked in a college town years ago it was easy to take time off during the holidays cause most of my coworkers didn't go home for break and wanted the extra money. but my other store after that one was a pain to get time off during December. its really hit and miss. hopefully you got your money back for your travel stuff.

Ex Sbux barista from South Africa here! This is literally why I quit my job. They pause leave from the 15th of November till like the 10th of January which was a bit difficult because my family doesn't live where I worked, and I was a student too and needed time off for exams but couldn't get that either. A lack of leave works for some, but I don't think it works for me lol

Where I work it's a battle for hours, I literally have to work all afternoon for Christmas and I won't even be able to visit my family as planned....and I feel horrible....
