Anyone else at licensed stores have these issues? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by taylortherod
As the title says, I work at a licensed Starbucks in a grocery store. We’re able to take Starbucks gift cards, but we can only scan the app if it’s a bar code. I’ve been told that the QR codes shut our system down. We’re also not able to redeem points off the app at all. They do work with gold cards for some reason. For the most part, customers are cool about it, but it’s still frustrating cause a lot of people have QR codes, and we have signs that say we can redeem points. According to my team lead, the points issue has been addressed with Starbucks, but nothing’s been done. As for the QR code, my coworkers have told me that all licensed stores are unable to scan them, but if that’s the case, then why does Starbucks make it an option if it can’t be used everywhere?

I used to work at a licensed store, its just how star redemption works unfortunately. I believe somewhere on the app it says something about it, I feel like I read it recently.

Yep, went from a core drive thru store to a licensed one on my uni campus. Same as everything you wrote, plus the POS system is sooooo bad. I know this varies by company, but I seriously miss the regular Bux POS

Corporate store employee here, but your issues are common to a lot of licensed stores. When Starbucks first started using the QR codes they basically said it was in response to customers who wanted more ways to pay, and that licensed stores couldn’t take them for the time being because each licensee company was responsible for upgrading their own systems. That was in 2019. I’m guessing the licensees just don’t really want to spend the money on upgrades that wouldn’t make a difference to most customers. Of course that doesn’t help baristas or customers since a lot of them can’t even tell the difference between a corporate and a licensed store to begin with.
