About to leave the siren. (self.starbucksbaristas)

After 2 years, I had a sudden death in the family and let my SM know that I would be out of town for the week to help my family cope and go to the funeral. Just received a text from him saying if he doesn’t hear anything from me in the next 30 minutes about my “no call no shows” it will be job abandonment and he’s firing me. He’s a bs manager, and I’ve seen him maybe 10 times during my time. But I still feel horrible and sad leaving. Why??? Anyone else feel like this when leaving?

Screenshot that text, send it to ethics and compliance. This garbage shouldn't be tolerated. I'm so sorry for your loss and for the horrible treatment you've been getting. Gather all the dirt you have on him (preferably with a paper trail) and definitely report him, cus this is just vile.

Also, please don't feel bad about leaving. Your health should be the top priority and if that means leaving a job that makes you miserable, then so be it. Please take care of yourself. <3

Call PCC about bereavement leave ASAP, bypass your SM

I cannot stress this enough: call Sedgwick. I think a death in the family might be covered under a leave of absence and they will give you one only for a week. If they approve your leave of absence, there is absolutely nothing your manager can do without the company having to actually respond because you can’t be held accountable due to missed shifts for an approved leave of absence. If you do get one, I would also look into transferring box your manager sounds like he sucks.

Keep us posted on what happens with this! My manager is just like yours & I’ve been wondering what we can do about it.

Quit and come back. Usually I’ll say transfer but he won’t let u transfer. Better than getting fired. Quit with corporate by telling them your situation. when u complain to cooperate, they will tell ur sm and he will try to do something to u. Kinda in a bad situation.
