How difficult is the transition from barista to shift? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by clownkiddo
Hey y’all! My manager had a conversation with me about becoming a shift in the new year, which I’m SUPER excited about because I only started 4 months ago and I’m super proud of the progress I’ve made so far. I am kinda worried about the transition though. Everything the shifts do in my store seems super complicated, and I would hate to tarnish the reputation I worked so hard to build because I suck at being a shift. Any advice or insight would be appreciated :,)

You're literally being thrown into the fire. Its not a compliment, its proof they have no other reasonable options. Take the extra money but cover your ass.

hi! 1 month old shift hired from tarbucks here ::)

your sm *should* be doing your training!!! i had a week of each shift with them! open, mids then closes. ask as many and all questions you have they’re there to help you. the tasks at first look complicated but they’re pretty seamless bc it’s either ipad or ipod. even today my sm was like you’re doing a good job getting accustomed to being a shift and they constantly remind me that i’m not expected to nail everything down instantly. there’s more responsibilities and it’s unfair to expect perfection after training honestly. there will be some rough shifts in the beginning but you can get a feel for how to improve— reflection is important. remember that your sm would be your new boss so you’re expected to carry out their directions and make sure your team is great. i love to praise my team for busting butt but that also comes with reminding them to do tasks and follow standards. let me know if u have any questions :))
