SMs and SSVs, please give your baristas their breaks (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by canidieyet_
I clocked in a 6:30am. I took my first and only 10 at 8:30, all is well. I was scheduled to take my lunch at 10 since I left at 2:30, but I didn’t take my lunch until 1:30pm. I understand things get hectic and breaks get delayed, but I shouldn’t be waiting for 7 hours for my lunch. I was starting to feel sick bc I didn’t eat breakfast since I was under the impression I would wait 5 hours max for my lunch. I did communicate this to my SSV but all she did was roll her eyes. The closing SSV in charge clocked in at noon (we close at 6 due to staffing) and ran both her lunch and first 10 before mine because she “didn’t want to wait”, as if I was willingly waiting my entire shift to eat.

My store generally is very good about giving breaks, but I can’t help but be upset about it. My SM is aware of what happened and gave the SSV an earful for taking her breaks within an hour of starting her shift & neglecting mine until literally the very last minute :) (I didn’t tell him directly, he overheard me telling another barista and was not happy about it. I was planning to tell him about it anyways)

As an ssv I’ll always delay my breaks before anyone else’s especially during a hectic day. I couldn’t imagine shorting my team like that sorry you had to wait so long :(

I have one shift who will "forget" breaks if she doesn't like someone, but elsewise our store is great for breaks.
