All baristas should know how to read and write cups.(self.starbucksbaristas)

Sbux cup writing and reading is an art and there are times that I’m not by a register to ring in a DT order so I write it instead (or am helping by order support) and it amazes me that people will question what 4, 2V\ 4WM, Lt. ice, slashed out Wc, and WM at the bottom is. Like it kind of pisses me off in a way.

Why are you complaining about people not knowing how to do things they were never taught? Either offer to teach them while you’re both clocked in or find a way to deal with anger on your own time.

The Starbucks I worked at doesn’t teach it. So how exactly would anyone know it?
And I sure wouldn’t suggest anyone learn it on their time off.

Technology is going to fail. This is known as many stores deal with printers that fail, WiFi that doesn’t work, or even other facts regarding technology. Do you think Starbucks would close because the printers didn’t work?

Lol I’ve worked when the printers stop and no one knows how to write cups besides like one person. It sucked but certainly wasn’t the end of the world for the hours we dealt with it. I remember one time my current spouse was the only person who knew how to do it and he kept handing me cups at bar and I would just stare at them. We are laughing about it now, thanks for the memory trip, that was indeed an interesting day.
But hey you seem passionate! I’m sure yelling about it on Reddit will be a productive use of that concern.

Nah it just irks me when I’m tapped on the shoulder and being asked about a drink and DT times are high and literally saying “It’s right there. Someone misplaced the sticker but I heard the order and made it.” Now let me get back to my 20+ line up before I get bitched out.
particularBillarina10 points1y ago
Okay but like you know that people can’t read the stickers so you are mad that you did the thing you know they don’t understand and then they don’t understand it.
Whose really the problem here lol?

why are you saying tapped on the shoulder as if we don’t all have headsets and it’s not a big deal to push a button and answer such simple questions

Oh god what if we had to write “W mocha” and “4 vanilla” on the cup! Learning cryptic 1 letter symbols and terms is pointless. If the printers break just write out the words. Also the chance of all the printers dying is extremely low and we could just reroute.

We are trained on it during the computer course and then never use it again, in fact, are discouraged from doing it because we have printers and a system for that. And we are already short staffed to the point of not getting things done/closers staying late... but yeah, let's take some time to review it even though we have printers...?

I’m my Starbucks target we write on the cups. Sometimes i still ask what’s this and that and I’ve been here for a month and a half. It’s better to be sure then to just make a drink off of guessing.

I don't get worked up about things like that. New baristas aren't really trained on it besides one module. In the event they have to write cups (sticker machine not working) I just tell them to copy the boxes to the right of the screen & focus on my job. It's just coffee, and things change.

Starbucks corporate and some licensed store Do not teach coding I only know it because I worked at a Barnes and noble. It's not a big deal to tell people what it means yes ideal it should be self explanatory but also you never know. I understand your annoyance but don't take it out on your coworkers/partners take it out on the company

The computer modules cover at least the basics of it. The things you wrote seem like common sense abbreviations so I get your frustration!
