I’m not sure if I’m just being petty or doing what is right. But there is a client who always comes to the store and orders a grande latte but asks for it to be made in a venti cup. I do it no problem. However, I fill it up as if it was a grande. She got annoyed last time and told me “you never fill up my cup to the top” and so I explained to her that she only paid for a grande so she is getting the grande amount. She said she asked the cashier for it to be put in a venti. I said it is. She left pretty upset. Am I being petty?

what i do is if im ringing them up in cafe I ask if they want room at the top, they never do, so ask what they want extra of. usually its milk SO YOU CAN GO TO MILK SECTION AND PRESS THE LITTLE 'ADD DAIRY' sorry I'm screaming I was so happy to find it. anyways it charges .70 for the extra milk so they're not scamming their way into a free upgrade

Thank you thank you!

I would have over foamed the same grande amount of milk and given her a cappuccino instead just to fill the cup out of spite

I would explain that the in a bigger cup option is meant to hold extra ice, or for people that want room in their cup

nope you’re not being petty! i have a usual customer who always asks for a grande in a venti “with no waste” but I always fill it up to a grande because that’s what she paid for and im not gonna hand out any freebies lol (esp not to a rude lady like her). my shift tried to say that I should fill it to the top because that’s what we’re paid to do… we’re also paid to follow rules so :) ur doing well lol

i mean partly yes, it would be easier just to do what she wants and send her on her way. frankly, i’m not paid enough to be trying to save starbucks’ money. if someone’s genuinely affected by like less than a dollar difference thats just kinda sad ngl.

I would do it that way too, lol. I now always ask if people want room at the top when they ask for a bigger cup now, cuz sometimes they actually DO want room, and I was over-filling one customer's cup on accident for a while.
